First Handgun, What was yours? Mine was...

My first gun is my Beretta 92FS. I had decided on it because it's what I used in the Marine Corps, and the caliber and weight make it a nice gun to let other new shooters enjoy shooting. My second gun is a 6" Colt .357 Match Target revolver that my Great Grandfather carried in the Police Auxillary in 1968. Neither is going anywhere.

At first, I read through this entire thread and thought to myself, "What?! Nobody else had a Ruger 10/22 as his first gun?"

Then I remembered that the thread was about handguns.

The first handgun I bought in my own name was my Uberti Colt SAA replica, and I love it to death. But the first one I handled, which is now unofficially mine since I do all the firearm maintenance in the family is the Heritage Mfg .22LR single action revolver that my father bought several years ago.

The Ruger Mk III Hunter I own, became officially mine just three days before I bought my Sig P226 .40S&W.

I absolutlely love the Ruger. Jury's still out on the Sig.

Brand new Taurus PT92 with walnut grips, in 1985. I was 17, so my Dad had to sign for me...

I still have it, and it still has NEVER jammed or failed. Way too big and fat to carry for me (15+1), but it's still one of my three main home defense weapons.

Mine was a 6" S&W 686 in which I shot mostly .38spcl through due to the cost of ammo. Absolutely loved that gun, and cannot even remember the reasoning behind getting rid of it....sad. :(

A used Ruger MKI

Bought it around 2002. Made in the early 80`s as far as i recall.

Really shiney with practically no wear on the finish but the previous owner had destroyed the barrel to the point that it wouldnt group less than 8" at 25yards. Tried firelapping it which brought the groups down to 3".. Then the pin that keeps the firing pin from slamming into the chamber wall broke.. Sent it to the gunsmith to fix the dent in the chamber wall.. Then after a while the same pin broke again.. Then again i stood there with a dent in the chamber. FTE..

Took an angle grinder and sawed it in 3 pieces, delievered the remains in a plastic bag at my local police to get it off my "permit";)

Learned a great deal with that gun.. How firearms work internally and WHY I NEVER EVER SHOULD BUY ANYTHING JUST BECAUSE IT LOOKS REALLY SHINEY!:D:D

Ruger Mark I Target .22 which I purchased new in 1970. It's a favorite and I still shoot it regularly.

Sig P226 W. German. Won the Gunbroker auction days after my 21st birthday which was only 13 days ago. Still waiting for it to come though :(

My first one was a Ruger P95 .40 SW. It was double action only and the trigger pull was to awful...Traded it for a Savage Fox double barrel 12 gauge shotgun.

My first was a Ruger Super Single Six that I bought when I was 18 (1971). Later added a 1.3x Bushnell on a Phantom mount ...

Thompson/Center Contender Super 14 in .30-30 Winchester... I still have it too :)

I saw someone shooting Handgun Sillouette and HAD to have one of them long range handguns.. It took me a few years of constant practice, but I managed to do pretty well with it.

im very ashamed to admit this mine was a rohm rg10 that was a 22short that couldnt hit the side of a barn total POS that i got at the local pawn shop for a grand total of 24.95 a few days after my 21 birthday which hasnt even been 5 years ago. I still have it somewhere just because it was my first handgun, couldnt part with it for that reason.
