First Handgun, What was yours? Mine was...

Pistol #1 was (is) an early Colt Series 80 Combat Commander in stainless, purchased back in 1989. Due to the cost of .45 ammo, it mostly guards the safe.

I had just become aware of the truth about the Second Amendment and gun ownership, so decided to exercise my Constitutional right.

Logic said, "Get a .22," but I wanted a 1911, as close to GI as I could find. Springfield Armory's 1911-A1s were out, but I couldn't find one. I had recently read Mas Ayoob's very positive review of the Commander, and a friend at a pawn shop had a NIB on hand. 'Want' won, so the Commander went home, and it has been a winner.

I had an ambi safety installed, and an arched mainspring housing.

It is my "If I could only have one gun" gun.

First handgun that I purchased with my own money: S&W 4506 (still have it).

First handgun that i had: Hi Standard Sentinel Deluxe, that my Grandfather gave to me...but it was stolen some years ago.

at 18 I bought a used USP40, with a Hogue grip on it, god i love that gun. next was a CZ 452 bolt 22, then a CZ 97B, then a ruger p89 (only gun I've ever sold, wish i hadn't but whatever), then an S&W 586 6", a few weeks later at the range bought a S&W Model 28-2 for $250, and this summer a Sigma

First handgun I USED was a High Standard .22 Sentinel. The first handgun (if you want to call it that, not exactly a snubbie) that I PURCHASED was a Remington XP100 in .221 Fireball.

I started out right with a 1911.

In the 1960s I bought a 1911 made in 1918. The military had X'd out the SN and replaced with another SN. It had been modified with bigger sights for target work, trigger work, nicely done cross hatches on the front of the frame and refinished. It shot very well. After several years, it started acting up. The slide wouldn't stay open on the last round and some infrequent feeding issues.

Well, it wasn't worth a lot back then and it was easy to replace so I did.

I do wish I had it back.

1st handgun...

4 in Blue S&W model 29: traded for Gibson L6S (wish I had them both back)
1st I carried seriously was Ruger P85 that always worked for me (traded for P-14 framekit gun with Colt Combat Elite upper; wish I had that one back too!)

"Behind this smile, its' easy to trace, the tracks of my tears..."
(I liked the Johnny Rivers cover)

Cheers, TF

At age 16 (quite a while ago), I bought a junky looking piece that I now think was a Navy Colt or similar model from a schoolmate. It looked exactly like this one: http://www.johnnyg.westhost.com/cwg73-colt-1851-nav-s.JPG - minus the trigger guard, which wasn't brass.

When I found out it had been "decommissioned" by jamming some metal rod into the barrel, I was so disappointed I sold it again. Now wish I hadn't, of course. Pretty sure it was the real deal, and would have loved to see it restored.

Dad bought me a S&W K-22 Masterpiece - 1978 or so.
I bought a S&W M13 .357 with 3-inch bbl shortly after I turned 21 - 1983. Still have the M13.

CZ 75B SA. I probably should have started with a .22, but I still love that gun.

The first handgun I ever fired was my mom's little .22 of unremembered manufacture. I was eight and remember hitting the can and being ecstatic about not missing. The next handgun I fired was a Browning HP that belonged to my stepdad that very same day. The next time I picked up a Browning was in the Army. The first handgun I ever owned was my TRP Operator, talk about a big step up...;)

I wish that the two pistols I first fired were still in my world, but they were stolen from my Stepdad's estate before they were catalogued. :fire:

My first handgun was a PA-63 (Hungarian clone of the Walther PP, with an aluminum frame and chambered in 9x18 Makarov caliber), a somewhat odd first choice, if I do say so myself.

Ruger Single Six .22/.22 mag

Got it Christmas of 6th grade year. Had a scope mounted on it and I was hardly ever without it! It was my prized posession...Actually, we didn't have that many possessions.
It never let me down!:)

ruger gp100 4" in ss. my wife (at the time) told me it just looked meaner than the other guns i was looking at. i was looking at a copmact 1911 and some others but i bought the ruger. still have it, still love it, will keep it!

Iver Johnson Sealed Eight, bought it when I was in high school, $25.00 including cartridge belt, and Bauer holster. I got really good with it.

The first handgun that I ever shot was dad's H&R DA .22lr

The first handgun that I ever bought was a Beretta 92F

The first handgun that I ever bought brand new was a Ruger Blackhawk .30 carbine

The 1st was a Jennings J22. Paid about $50. Money was very tight back then & it was better than the "nothing" I had before it. Wasn't too long before #2 got added, a Colt Trooper III, followed by a S&W 686.
