Who is suing Florida for unconstitutional restrictions on the Second Amendment? Is it the Gun Owners of America? Is the ACLU? Is it Peta?

I'm confused see I know a lot of people over the years have said the NRA is a useless organization and not aggressive enough....ect.....however as soon as Florida dropped gun control on us they were the first to file, the first to have our backs, the first to stand up, the only group to support legal gun owners.

If you are not a member of the NRA please consider joining because if you think Florida is going to be it you're very wrong.

Edit to add: also props to the 20 year-old rightfully suing for age discrimination against Dick's and Walmart.

Yes. They are the biggest organization in the room. GOA and others file lawsuits also, perhaps not in this case. It comes down to available $$$, NRA has 5+ Mil members and a 100s of millions $$ warchest.

If some of the others you mentioned had that kinda smack they would do much more it is absolutely not as if they are doing nothing.

The NRA has pissed me off.
But they have also done a lot of good. So like any large organization I weigh the good and bad. In my case I didn’t renew a few years ago when they didn’t return my call and email. I rejoined last year then upgraded this year because I think it’s important to support them.

And there’s nothing saying people can’t join NRA, GOA and other orgs. GOA is my next membership next payday.

I don't like everything about the NRA, but pay my dues and join until something better comes along. And I don't see that happening.

I'd like to see them be more proactive rather than reactive. They are always on defense. None of us want to see gun violence, especially kids being shot up in schools. No matter where you stand on guns that makes us all look bad. If I were running the country I'd call in the top NRA brass and task them with coming up with legislation that would actually make a difference and that MOST gun owners would agree to. No one is ever going to make everyone 100% happy.

Wait, so the NRA is suing to stop the policies it endorsed a week or so ago?

I'd like to see them be more proactive rather than reactive
This. And 'productive' even more than 'proactive.' We had a full six months before Vegas when the NRA could have played hardball, threatened to drop congressional leaders' ratings for slow-walking HPA and reciprocity (as they darn well should have), and lobbied to force a vote.

Instead they allowed congress to dicker with healthcare and Russia nonsense while waiting for the next inevitable mass shooting, at which point we apparently have to wait for the next election to even think about taking a bite at the apple.

Meanwhile, hopelessly outnumbered Democrats reintroduce their AWB, ever waiting for the opportunity.

No organization is perfect. In my opinion, every gun owner should be part of some organization that defends the 2nd amendment. All the organizations that represent gun owners should stand united even when they don't always agree. UNITED WE STAND - DIVIDED WE FALL!

Those that don't support those who stand up for their rights often don't vote either. Not painting with a wide brush but a bunch of our customers (central Illinois gun store) don't belong to the NRA, ISRA, GOA, and also complain that it does no good to vote.

NRA Benefactor, ISRA, PSTC, RVSC, NMLRA, memberships and believer in doing something rather than sitting back and beechin. Do you all make calls, write real letters, email, or otherwise contact your representatives in government? I sure do.

Couldn't believe it the other day when I asked a shop owner if he had called the governor's office to ask for a veto on the horrible gun dealer state licensing bill sitting on his desk. "Dont have time"!

As Tim from the MAC noted has two different factions, the Line in the Sand no compromise faction and the bend over and grab their ankles and compromise compromise compromise faction that has been responsible for every bit of gun ban legislation that's come down the pipeline since the ban of 86'. As long as the NRA is controlled by the compromise faction thanks to people like Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox they won't get another dime from me. Every time the Deep State carries out a false flag attack and the NRA is put under pressure it seems they would rather compromise and give some of our rights away rather than stand up and fight and that's not right and I'm sick of it. Now I've met Larry Pratt from the GOA personally and he seems to be a hell of a nice guy and I can get behind their hard-line stance of no compromise but I can't get behind the NRA if they're not willing to do the same , not until Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox are no longer running things at least.

Very good position in post #11 ^ , I understand. May I suggest another. Seeing you have a 'beef with the chief' e.g. Cox & LaPierre, become a member, VOTE in the Board of Directors elections etc. for candidates who want to bust up the 'good ol boys club' within the NRA. There are candidates who have stumped for a BoD seat (coming up in April) right here on these forums.

You simply will not unseat the upper echelon any other way. In any event donate to another viable organization and you did name one...

I belong to both the NRA and GOA. I will be buying NRA memberships for 3 of my acquaintinces who are gun friendly but not members. I recomend that every gun owner buy at least one other person a membership. There is safety in numbers. The big problem with what is going on now is that it is just the tip of the iceberg. First its raise the age to purchase which also takes the 18-20 year olds out of hunting and all of the shooting sports. Next step is to ban assault type weapons. When that doesn't stop the killing all semi auto's are next. Handguns will follow. Then all repeating guns. Then when some idiot takes out a kid in a school yard with a single shot rifle they will be gone. While they may say they will not take or guns they lie. Problem is the logistics of confiscating the millions of guns in the country are insurmountable. They haven't figured out how to collect income tax from everyone yet and have been unable to stop illegal drugs and teen agers from getting alcholhol, not to mention prostitution. They tried banning alcohol and we all know that failed. We do have a big problem in that about half the country has little knowledge about how guns work and fail to understand that if you take all of the guns off of the face of the earth today, tomorrow some idiot can and will to go into a school and kill 17 kids.

"enemy of my enemy is my friend"

I haven't been a fan of the NRA, but this last round of gun control b.s. has made me decide to throw a couple bucks at them.

When even a turncoat republican president acknowledges the NRA as the boogie man, I know it's time to join them.

I have a bigger problem with the use of the phrase “poo poo” than anything the NRA may or may not do.

Otherwise, the NRA needs to get out of politics and back to gun safety and training.

And their legal efforts play an important role in the evolution of Second Amendment jurisprudence.

I've been a member of the NRA since I turned 18 and will continue to be a member, but I still have my complaints with them. I don't like that they have compromised on things like background checks. I also think their current message goes too far on rhetoric and fear mongering and they've become too much of a "Conservative" group rather than a "gun rights" group.

There's a lot of gun rights supporters that lean to the left on other issues, but the NRA just seems to want to piss them off when we should be welcoming them with open arms.

Another bunch that is all over gun rights is the Second Amendment Foundation. They do good werk.

Agreed. They have been involved in the really major moves like the Heller and McDonald cases before the Supreme Court. They have also been a royal pain in the arse to DC regarding carry and are going after others. This small group has been doing some heavy lifting.
