If he had a rifle it would have been almost impossible for him to get around. What I want to know is why the hell didn't they stop him after he shot the RA in West AJ? Why the hell did they let him get to Norris? There were at least TWO HOURS between the events. TWO DAMN HOURS AND ALL THE DO IS SEND AN EMAIL THAT SAYS "CALL THE POLICE IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS"

God bless the poor (but defenseless) victims of this lunatic.

Now the 60+million lawful owners will be made to pay the price for the psycho's actions by political opportunists like Hillary Rodham, Obamarama, and Rudy Giuliani. :(

At Least 20 Killed in Virginia Tech Shooting

At least 20 people were killed this morning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University after a shooting spree at two buildings on the campus.

The unidentified shooter was among the dead, according to officials, who also said that several were injured in the shootings, at West Ambler Johnston, a dormitory, and Norris Hall, which houses the College of Engineering. Authorities said the first shooting was reported shortly after 7 a.m.

"We have a ballpark figure on fatalities," Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum, said at a news conference broadcast by CNN. "It's at least 20 fatalities."

Flinchum said he did not know whether the shooter was a student. Some of those killed were in a classroom, he said.

"Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," Virginia Tech president Charles Steger said at a news conference. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified that this would befall us."

The campus, about four hours southwest of Washington, was shutdown.

CNN showed a video taken by a student in which dozens of shots could be heard.

Students and staff were notified by e-mail and automated voicemails that a gunman was on the loose and that everyone should stay in their buildings and "away from windows."

Staff and students contacted by telephone said the mornings events were unnerving.

David Harris, who works at the Center for Applied Behavioral Systems, said he arrived at 9:15 a.m. and received the first e-mail about 15 minutes later. It said there had been a shooting on campus, sending some into a frenzy.

"It was a little nerve-wracking," he said. "There were rumors that the gunman had jumped out the window and broke his neck. Then we got the second e-mail saying that a gunman was on the loose and telling us to stay away from the windows."

Harris said he has been told that the university is planning to evacuate everyone from the campus later today, though he was not certain.

The co-ed West Ambler Johnston dorm is one of the largest residence halls on campus, housing 895 residents.

Madison Van Duyne, a student who was interviewed by telephone on CNN, said, "We are all in lockdown. Most of the students are sitting on the floors away from the windows just trying to be as safe as possible." She said university officials were "doing a wonderful job of e-mailing us and just trying to keep us updated."

Last August the campus was shut down because of concerns that a gunman was on campus. The man, an escaped inmate accused of killing a sheriff's deputy and a security guard, was later captured at VirginiaTech.

One woman who answered the phone in the school's Entomology Department said that about 9:45, they were notified that everyone was to remain in their offices and not venture out but were not given any other details. "There's cop cars everywhere," said the woman.

Another worker at the university, who also did not wish to be identified, said that there has been a dearth of information, except what could be gleaned from news reports.

"We're all just staying put," said the second woman.

In response to this article (above), I emailed Mr. Hincker regarding his quote and position on a "gun-free campus." Below is a copy of the message.

Peeing in the proverbial wind, I suppose.

Mr. Hincker,

First of all, my sincerest heartfelt thoughts and prayers are extended to the Virginia Tech family. I cannot imagine the emotional trauma the Hokie family has had to endure today as a result of the shooting tragedy.

With that being said, and as a Pro 2nd Amendment enthusiast, I humbly request that you reconsider your position (as stated in this article - http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/wb/xp-50658) regarding on-campus concealed carry rights, so the people of your fine university can at least defend themselves from such atrocities.

Banning guns on campus didn't stop this shooting, because criminal nutjobs do not care about the law. The only thing the defeat of this bill accomplished was depriving the victims of the opportunity to defend themselves if they so chose.

I appreciate your time and will be praying for all those in the VT family.

Thanks,

Fox News showing a pic of an asian looking guy with a cop on his back handcuffing him.

Unethical people will not obey any laws. Murderers are unethical. Ergo, no existing, or future law will ever prohibit an unethical person from committing murder.
They don't get that Doc, they seem to think there is a magic law or number of laws just waiting to be ratified that all the criminals will obey.

I haven't heard about the shooter killing himself. They just mentioned the possibility of "suicide by cop." on Fox, however.

In Anticipation...

...Of the avalanche of anti legislation we'll surely have introduced which will probably seek to ban 'Assault weapons' (GASP) :barf: ), I am heading down NOW to lay away that WASR 10 I was thinking I might buy. The thing that really grinds me, and should grind the poor parents of the victims, is the idea that a couple of CCWs might have put a speedy end to this s^&* before it got out of control...

It amazes me that they never make the connection that these kinds of incidents always happen where guns are not allowed. People unable to defend themselves are killed in large numbers and their answer is to make more people defenseless. What is it they say about the definition of insanity?

tydephan, that's pretty tasteless. You're sending the guy political emails within hours of the event? Can you imagine the uproar here if we found out that someone from the Brady Campaign shot off emails saying, "I bet you wish you supported even tighter laws now!" within hours of the shooting?

I'm just disgusted. I'm afraid I'm going to veer off The High Road if I say anything more.

I work at a large University (~47K students) -not allowed to carry or have a weapon-:banghead: this is going to have major impact on all higher education institutions and how they secure the facilities. Sad thing is with so many kids (young adults, teens, students ets) you just cannot lockdown such a large number of folks and or buildings. Not only that- but college students are quite diverse making it even harder to look for a "young asian man, or a black man, or a white man..."

I am sure our campus police will be sending out some sort of communcation about this....thoughts to the families.

A swat team just checked our floor. They're still looking for a second shooter, but apparently there was only one. We had to stay in our dorms until they finished checking the floor, now we can go see our friends on the same floor.

I'm still so mad that they didn't do ANYTHING after the first incident. THE GUY WAITED TWO HOURS AND THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING IN BETWEEN!

NBC's Pete Williams said two law enforcement officials told him the gunman killed himself. They also said the gunman used two 9-mm handguns during the rampage, Williams reported. He said the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was trying to track the weapons.

This isn't confirmed yet, but at least he didn't use an AR-15 or AK-47. If it comes out he did (or owned one) expect a full-court press to ban them.

This is terrible. I am praying for these victims and families.
@ things come to mind:
1) Why do people not fight back when they are lined up execution style. They have to know what is coming.
2) In the next month if not sooner, you better buy what you want or need because the powers that be will be pushing for tighter gun control and banning them and this will give them the reasons to do it. I don't agree with using credit cards except for emergencies but if you can't pay cash for what you want, use that card now and pay it off later.

statement

Shooting at Virginia Tech / Statement by President Charles W. Steger

The university was struck today with a tragedy of monumental proportions. There were two shootings on campus. In each case, there were fatalities. The university is shocked and horrified that this would befall our campus. I want to extend my deepest, sincerest and most profound sympathies to the families of these victims which include students There are 22 confirmed deaths.

We currently are in the process of notifying families of victims. The Virginia Tech Police are being assisted by numerous other jurisdictions. Crime scenes are being investigated by the FBI, University Police, and State Police. We continue to work to identify the victims impacted by this tragedy. I cannot begin to covey my own personal sense of loss over this senselessness of such an incomprehensible and heinous act The university will immediately set up counseling centers. So far centers have been identified in Ambler Johnson and the Cook Counseling Center to work with our campus community and families.

Here are some of the facts we know:

At about 7:15 a.m. this morning a 911 call came to the University Police Department concerning an event in West Amber Johnston Hall. There were multiple shooting victims. While in the process of investigating, about two hours later the university received reports of a shooting in Norris Hall. The police immediately responded. Victims have been transported to various hospitals in the immediate area in the region to receive emergency treatment.

We will proceed to contact the families of victims as identities are available.

All classes are cancelled and the university is closed for the remainder for the today. The university will open tomorrow at 8 a.m. but classes will be cancelled on Tuesday. The police are currently staging the release of people from campus buildings.

Families wishing to reunite with the students are suggested to meet at the Inn at Virginia Tech. We are making plans for a convocation tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon at Cassell Coliseum for the university community to come together to begin to deal with the tragedy.

This "former FBI agent" is a bumbling idiot. "It's amazing how an individual can get this much [50 rounds] ammunition and this kind of firepower".

What a moron. Where do they get these "experts"?

You can't put together a workable firearm w/o a receiver. You can't get a legal receiver w/o an FFL.

Fifty rounds of ammo is nothing. Most people practice with a couple hundred you can buy at the store.

You know the antis will be pushing HR1022 within the week. What everyone fails to realiize is that it would only take one or two armed students to put the killer down. VA Tech should have allowed students to keep weapons on campus. People will take away the wrong lesson from this shooting: gun bans mean less guns and more safety.:banghead:
