Frustrated by Cabela’s & BassPro’s Faulty Website Primer Inventory?

My nearest Bass Pro shop is 60 miles away, I see in stock for small pistol magnum primers, but I'm leery of driving the hour there and hour back to find out they really aren't in stock, even though the website says they are.
Cabela’s is 30 miles from me and in northern Virginia traffic it can be an hour each way. But, I stop at the range either on the way to or from and always skip the interstate and drive through Manassas Battlefield.
I enjoy the trip, but I never, ever trust the in store inventory—I mentioned my in store test in a previous post above.

The range I go to is 15 minutes from the house, so I'm not that lucky. Both it and a local bullet maker were 15 minutes from where I worked back when I use to make the long commute. But since I retired I normally order online, but as we all know, primers are are to find. I'm fairly well stocked, but since I was trying a new power for my 357 that requires small pistol magnum primers, I didn't stock up on those.

I do too when I have no other choice, but last week I got a brick of LPP with shipping and hazmat from Powder Valley cost me $66. At that price they should clean the pocket and seat themselves.
I would consider that a fair price these days, did you have to pay tax also ?

Does the website showing primers in stock at that location let you add them to your virtual shopping cart for same day in-store pickup? Top section of the info at this link posted on the previous page of this thread.

If not, it's unlikely they're sitting at the B&M store in stock IME but the only way to be 100% positive would be to go to the store in person. If so, they likely are and you've placed yourself in a favorable position where if you purchase them an employee should pull what you purchase online from store stock and set side for you when you arrive if you complete online purchase of them.

As always YMMV

My Cabela’s doesn’t even make a pretense for primers anymore—the shelves are now stocked with Christmas ammo boxes. Bullets and powder pretty similar.

The SA BPS "theoretically" moved them from store shelving accessible to anyone to locked drawers at the knife counter (should primers actually be physically present) a while back. The shelf tags were removed and the shelving reconfigured.

ETA: Ive NEVER seen a store employee manning the knife counter, so I consider that sign an inside ironic joke in more than one dimension.

I would love to know what I'm doing wrong, or what I should do to be able to first find the item in stock, and then put it in my cart. It keeps wanting to check only my local store's inventory.
This post is the only reason I participated in this thread, someone asking for help instead of just complaining. Since my initial contributions weren't perceived negatively I continued.

You just happened to have pics of empty shelves to use in response to the potential email?
No I took, then posted, that photo previously on THR in a different thread after the trip I took that picture as I knew I'm not the only THR member seeking primers at the SA BPS. You could search my post history to find the first time I posted that photo to see the date it was first posted.

ETA: My phone says I took that photo October 13.

I feel your pain, my nearest Cabela's is also 60 miles away with $16 in tolls (round trip).

For awhile I lived about two miles from the Northern Virginia Cabela's, and even before the BPS takeover their website info was rarely accurate. Primers, powder, etc.. didn't matter, but a trip to the store often showed the website was not up to date.

And I agree with others here, times are unusual right now, and websites may be slow to update due to employees being overwhelmed with other priorities. Check websites other than reloading/gun sites and you will most likely see the same thing. Just have to be patient and wait it out.

I just received an apology email from Bass Pro Shops for the canceled order with a nice explanation on why the order was canceled, Volume of orders exceeded inventory, DUH! And I also received a discount code for 10% off my next on-line order if used before Jan 1! YIPEE!!!

Alrighty then. I’m going to ask for the same. I’ll keep you as an anonymous source.

My order placed November 27 status changed from "In Process" to shipped today. The tracking number isn't a FedEx tracking number which means it's being shipped on a BPS & Cabela's truck. I won't be able to observe its movement to my designated store. IME this order should arrive before December 15 so I should be able to make 1 trip to pick up both my recent online orders. But nothing is 100% certain.

My order placed on the 25th is being shown shipped by Fed Ex with a tracking number. Supposed to be here tomorrow, so we will see how it turns out.

So, per the mention on the where are they in sale thread, i called bps and inquired about the federal small match primers that said available Dec 15-18th. 15 Min hold, 15 min call time.

I was told they would be backordered for me and am email generated upon shipment. I ordered five bricks. No shipping or hazmat due to ship to store. $242 total taxed for 5k.

I may or may not get them but it was encouraging to even allow a backorder.

I have a retired LEO down the road who has bought about 4k of primers from me since the pandemic. I've got him good on all but small pistol primers. 2k for him and 3k for me would be a great deal regardless of time.

Bps said they would maintain my backorder for 60 days before canceling if the product doesn't arrive
