Hi everyone,

First, I've already searched THR and Google and couldn't find anything definitive on the subject, so I'm turning to you guys. I'm having trouble determining the difference in finger groove spacing between the 17 and 19. From all the pictures I see online, it looks like the 17 has a larger top and bottom groove, but the middle one appears to be spaced a little closer like the 19. However, I'm not 100% certain on this because it's hard to tell from internet pics and sometimes I feel like my eyes are playing tricks on me.

I'm familiar with the compact and sub-compact Glock grips and the finger grooves fit me well. I've been thinking about picking up my first full-size Glock (either 17 or 34 if I can find one), but I'm worried that the finger groove spacing isn't going to work for me. I'd go to a gun shop and see for myself, but I can't seem to get off work early enough and all the gun shops around here seem to close at 5pm. No big box stores around here either (e.g. Cabelas, Sportsman's Warehouse, Gander Mt.).

I'm mainly looking for feedback from those who own both the 17 and 19 (or 22/23). Can you describe the finger groove spacing and your preference as to which one feels better in the hand?

Thanks!

The mid sized frame is smaller at the first finger groove...I find my G17 feels better to my grip than my G23 does for this reason but it is not a deal killer for me...I have no issue with the subcompact frame G26/27/33 ...good luck with your choice...

I sold my 3rd gen G19 to my son because the finger grooves were tighter than on my G17. Both of my current G19's are 2nd gen. I don't like the finger grooves. On my early G26, the 2 grooves on the grip are OK with the +2 extended bases.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to guess that both of you have larger hands and/or meaty fingers.

I have normal looking medium/large male hands (I'm 5' 10"). My fingers don't have too much meat on them though, and I find that the spacing of the both the compact and sub-compact guns is pretty much perfect. I'm worried that with the 17 one of my fingers will fall on a groove peak instead of the valley. I guess I'll just have to go to a shop one of these days and see for myself.

I don't have a compact or sub-compact Glock but the 17/22 & Gen 4 G21 fit the Wife and I just fine. I don't have meaty hands and thankfully neither does my Wife.
Good luck and stay safe,
Mike

what should happen if you find the G19 perfect is that the G17 will be just a scosh to large...causing you no issues...I find it just that scosh too short...I'm 6'6" and have regular sized hands for my size and long fingers...

Have a 17 and a 26, tried the 19 several times and grooves were to small. Fingers would land on top of grooves. My little brother has smaller hands and the 19 fits him like a glove.

Interesting. Aren't the 26 grooves the same as on the 19?

I just compared my 26 with my wife's 19 and yep, the grooves do appear to be the same width. However, I have the same problem as TreeDoc does when I shoot the 19. In comparing the two, I think I figured out why though... The 26 allows my pinky finger to fall underneath the magazine so it's out of the picture; but I shoot the 19 with a full grip and that cramps my fingers up on the grip. If I hold the 19 with my pinky off the grip it fits just fine.

If you count the rows of studs in the finger groove you will find the G17 and G26 are the same (3) and the G19 only has 2...and that is why some of us feel cramped on the compact frame but not on the full sized or the sub compact frame GLOCKs...

They all appear to have 3 rows on the Glock website, including the 19.

My Glocks have no grooves...I own both a G17 and a G19..no finger grooves...just buy older gen. guns from the gen 1/gen 2 series when Glock grips lacked grooves for fingers.

I am speaking of my Gen 3 G17, G23 and former G27...perhaps GLOCK changed it but the pics I pulled up (Google Images) look the same as my actual pistols...

Nice to know if GLOCK changed that as that is the only thing I can say bad about a compact frame GLOCK...
