I'll be darn. Does it necessarily mean "Made in the USA" ? Every foreign manufacturer, including Beretta and SIG Sauer, boasts its American made products. In the ads, on the web pages, in video commercials. Glock does not. It is secretive alright, but it wouldnt make any sense to conceal the existence of a full scale factory in the US. USA on the slide likely means assembled in the US from Austrian frames, slides, and barrels, with the possible exception of small parts like springs supplied from elsewhere.

The barrel, slide, and frame have Georgia proof marks, the frame also says "Made in USA", the barrel says "US", and the slide of course says "USA" on it. I would be genuinely surprised to find that this is merely assembled in the USA. From what I can tell, it is in-fact US made.

Also, Glock has had a US factory for years. They used to just manufacture for export, but recent months have shown that they've opened that up for domestic sales as well. It's not new that they make them here. It's just new that they are selling them here as well.

I stand corrected. Cant argue with the proof marks. Where did you find the information on the American Glock factory? Smyrna GA is still listed by Glock as its NA address. Not a word about manufacturing. SIG stamps Exeter NH for the world to know. Beretta, Accokeek MD. Glock... What do you know

I have both, had a 30 for 15 years. Get the XDS for carry, the 30 is just too heavy, unless you owb carry in a good leather holster, or krydex. The 30 will start to get heavy any other way, those 10 round mags weigh more than the gun when loaded up. The xds is able to be pocket carried, and even iwb because of the grip safety. Just throw an extended mag in your other pocket or belt.If you are going out like to miami at night for instance, take the 30, or both, if it's taking out the garbage or sitting around the yard, the XDS is perfect. I carry my XDS when working out, no one ever knows. You can run with it in either a belly band or a pocket holster like a remora, and it will stay put. I always wore a gun at the guy, weather I was the owner or a client. I believe that you can get shot anyplace, so a gun is just part of my wardrobe since forever, a good 45 years, I used to cut hair in NY for 25 years and I always had my model 60 on my ankle, "in a short boot". It was licensed, and we had robberies, and "worse", but back then there were no Small 45's, the smallest you could get was a snubbie, or a walther.
Now we have so many choices that it has become confusing. Just find which gun works best for you and stick to it, you will adapt.

And the CA DoJ has ruled that the US-made ones are not the same as the Austrian, and so do not make the "approved" list for sale in California.

Yeah, it's relatively new... within the last couple years or so. My understanding was they were only doing it to export to countries that Austria couldn't export to, but then within the last 5 or 6 months, I've seen a good number of US-made Glocks being sold here. So... who knows? I can't tell any quality difference between this and my Austrian Glocks... but "USA" sure is prettier than "Austria".

I've heard they still haven't approved the Gen 4's either? Why would they allow Gen 3's but not Gen 4's? Is it the new assault style mag release, texture, grip, and recoil spring? :D

Isn't it funny, a Glock manufacturing plant in America that the company won't even mention to the piblic? Except now there is evidence of its existence?
They can do what they want. Their product, like it or not, is genius.

The Austrian Gen3s made the CA list before they started requiring an external safety and magazine disconnect, so they got grandfathered as long as Glock renews the listing every two years. Gen4s came out after the new requirements, and have never been submitted. The USA-made guns are considered new models (even different finishes are new models) and won't pass the current requirements. Glock has stated that they will not design new models to meet CA requirements, so we are limited to Austrian Gen3s - and it appears that Glock may quit importing those.

To further complicate the situation, LEOs are exempt if their agency will claim they are buying it for duty use. They can then sell used off-list guns to the public. And there is a Single Shot Exemption - a gun that isn't listed can still be imported and sold if modified with a long barrel and a conversion to a single round capacity....but it doesn't have to STAY a long-barreled single shot once the sale is complete.....

Do you mean manual external safety is required in CA? No blanking ruger LCP there? Is the XD kosher for its token grip safety?

I have never shot the 30SF but I have shot the 36 and I like the XDS better.

I spent 3 hours at my lgs and decided to buy the xds. I picked it for the thinness and lighter weight. It also fit into holsters I already had, saving me cash. Luckily I have some 45acp and put 50 trouble free rounds thru it to test.No 45acp ammo for sale around here! Thanks for the input and reviews.

I'd imagine the XDs will have a much more pronounced kick than the 30SF? The 30SF is capable of higher mag cap, i.e. using G21 13rd mag. Yet, really like my XD40sc but love my G4G30, which is very OWB doable.

BTW, a better comparison would be the G36 & XDs, JMO.

i know that the Glocks have a polygonal rifling and that they dont
do well with cast bullets.. this was one of the mane reasons l went
with the XDs. when i was looking fo a CC pistol. i looked at Glock
first i like the fact that there is after market Barrels and magazine
and all i here about them is how well they shoot. but i didnt want
to buy a new barrel to shoot reloads out of.then i looked at the
Kar Solo wow is that nice pistol.but its just supposed to just like
high dollar ammo. i shoot the snot out of my XDs with my reloads
so far it eats all i feed it. and it shoots great

As for safeties, I look at it this way - Glock same as a revolver, XDs same as 1911s. Keep the boogerpicker off the trigger and Glock wins. Don't want to fool with buttons or switches when adrenalin is pumping.

I wanted a knock around pistol for my carry gun when i was doing chores in my kennels and running hogs with dogs. Lgs always had xd's on special,,,399$, ( wish I'd bought 10 of them). Picked up a compact, in 40 cal, just cuz i had left over ammo from a firestar i once owned. I havent put many rounds through it, but every time i need it, it shoots. It rides in a hard molded plastic holster outside my pants, gets banged, bumped and wet. My place is basicly 50 acres of sandstone so it stays gritty. But it'll drop a hog like nobody's business. Easy, natural point and shoot, falls right back on target. Havent had any glock experiences, but have always shy'ed away from them, just around where i live, over the years, too many accidental discharges. Aint trying to dis the Glock, but that's just my experience. And the xd is usually cheaper, ( but not 399$ anymore)
