Gun snob recommendations

Kel Tec. PF-9. For sure not a budget breaker. But a good reliable, accurate, lightweight pistol. Mine was $ 265.00 out the door last August.

I'm another who recommends shooter-grade Smith & Wesson K-frames, preferably mechanically sound but cosmetically challenged. Worn bluing and scuffed stainless bring prices down.

I'm convinced that there are others (e.g., Makarovs are famous); I just don't own any personally yet.

I currently Own a Uberti 1873 in .357 ( bought it for $350) great gun but it currently non functional, so maybe not so great. a friend of mine owns a Polish P64 chambered in 9mak and I absolutely love shooting it. The DA pull is heavy but I know that can be corrected, the main thing I like is the simplicity and the size.

I'll second the Sigma in .40SW, aside from the day long trigger pull with more bumps than the Oregon trail the gun was reliable, accurate, and easy to use.

I guess I am considered a gun snob as I have multiple guns that I paid $1000 or more for. I love the 1911 and have quite a few. While not quite at the $300 mark new, for just a little more you can find Rock Island 1911's. I have 2 of them and shoot them just as much as my more expensive 1911's. My Charles Daly I paid $325 for it when I bought it new and it has been a reliable, steady performer.

good inexpensive

You'd have to go far to beat a 3rd generation SW semi (9mm, 40 or 45) all steel and utterly reliable 3-4$ will get you a good one.

Ten years ago, I bought CZ's for under $300. I got a -75B 9mm, a -75b .40 S&W, a -83 in .380 ACP, and a PCR 9mm. They have all run perfectly right out of the box. They were the best value in firearms.

Well im no gun snob, but i wish i was so i could buy a few guns i cant afford on my budget.
Anyhow 15 years ago i bought a Ruger P90 wich i really liked and had no issues with. Its close to the $300 range also.

Ive noticed i dont see Ruger mentioned much in the forums,in the semi auto hanguns anyhow. But ive always liked thier products.

Let's just be honest...

In these inflated days, $450 is the new $300. I think that is really a more valid break-point between high and low quality these days.

Currently, your best deal for a $300 gun is to find a clean, solid S&W M&P from gunbroker or local ads. They are still out there. This one was only $300 last year, and the gun leather came with it!

OK folks, here's one where we gun snobs (anyone that owns a single gun worth 1K or more) can provide recommendations for inexpensive guns.

My recommendations: Kel-Tec PF-9, used 4" S&W Model 10 or Model 64, Ruger P95, Rock Island 1911 (your choice of size).

Each of these are available for less than $400 and in my experience work very well.

well, i am definitely not a gun snob, but there are certain brands i avoid and some expensive brands i particularly admire. however, i don't think that price and quality are always a 1 to 1 correlation. there are some inexpensive brands that i feel offer lots of quality, and there are pricier brands that don't seem to offer much value on the dollar in my estimation.

that said, $300 dollars can be a bit tough. going to $400 or even just $350 opens up a lot of options for just a little extra dough. for so-called budget guns, i look at new rugers and used smiths (either auto or revo).

Yeah, I'd go with a lightly used Ruger P95. They always go bang, will probably outlast you, and you'll have good support if you need parts.

My old P95DC is one I'm sorry I traded. Bought it as an under-the-seat gun for the truck and then got unhappy that it didn't have fine accuracy. But it always worked and wasn't the least bit picky about ammo. For what I orignally bought it for, it was fine. Think I paid $289 NIB for it about 10 years ago. Should be able to find a used one for about that.

Sure do like the little 9mm/357 convertible Blackhawk I traded for, though.

Makarov. Highly accurate and reliable. A bit large for the power, but if you can live with that, you have a great gun inexpensively.

OK folks, here's one where we gun snobs (anyone that owns a single gun worth 1K or more) can provide recommendations for inexpensive guns. One caveat, you have to have owned/used the gun you recommend and provide some useful info on it. Let's use < $300 as a max price.

Less than $300 makes it tough.

The Makarov is one that comes to mind, but even they push the $300 limit these days.

I lucked into a $275 used Buckmark Field 5.5, and that is a great gun. In the same catagory the Beretta Neos is a great buy.. brand new it can be under $300. Another .22lr I'd recommend if you can find one is the Daewoo DP-52.

A couple small frame autos come close to $300.
I have a Sig P232 and Walther PPK/S that were $315 and a marvelous Sphinx AT-380M that was $350. I'd recommend any of these small, concealable .380s.

I'm on the fence concerning the CZ82. If you get a good one, they are a good deal at around $200, but there are some that are junk... a function of it being in long use and being complicated with lots of moving parts.

I looked around a bit just now and found these deals around that price range

All of the prices are 5% tax plus 27.50 shipping (no transfer fee buying local) according to the clerk on the phone. This only helps if you are around Birmingham but it seems to give a baseline to shoot for.

Bersa 380 - $225.49

Kel-Tec P-11 - $241.99

I would say a used S&W model 10 would top my list. Then maybe a Romanian TT-33 or Star auto.

I will limit this fighting pistols to keep it brief.

all are used

S&W revolver-legendary design, reliable, more accurate than most can shoot it

Ruger semi auto-blocky,ugly, bad trigger but reliable and tough as hell

3rd gen S&W auto-very underrated, reliable,good trigger,well proven in LE

glock police trade in rough shape-works as good as any
