I picked this up at FedEx Home Delivery yesterday…yeah, ironic!
Anyway…so joyous to have 5 bricks of Remington 7 1/2 primers…a first for me.
So sad that I paid 307% more for these 5 bricks than I paid for 5 bricks of CCI 500 primers 3 years ago.
On balance, the hurt will fade as my loading enjoyment increases. Welcome back, Remington.

Nice but painfully so. At the cost of 100 bucks a 1k remember when we got primers for 30-40 bucks 1k. I'm just sitting back waiting for the balloon to go up!
My best price ever was $28...I came to the game late...but I could run to Cabela's and get them for $33. These cost me $430.30 (delivered...ha) for 5 bricks. Under $90 at least. I hear some still finding in $60 range...but no where around me.

My first shortage rodeo was during Slick's campaign in the early 90s. I remember the old guys sitting around the MWR sportsman's center at Ft Ord pontificating about how'd they'd never spend 10.00 for a brick of primers, and people willing to do so were stupid and causing the prices to go up. I couldn't afford a brick back then, so bought 100/ct boxes for 1.25 each. I bought 5 of them, and got labeled as a hoarder by those guys.

There's no doubt that I've become somewhat of a hoarder myself. I would have preferred to have found CCI #41, but I think these will serve nicely. I do have more primers now than I have ever seen on any LGS shelf. That said...I know what I don't have...so I have more than I need in some, and not enough to none of others. I've traded to give another shooter what he was in need of, and I'm hoping to do the same when my LPP dries up. Which may take a while as I'm not shooting what I can't easily reload.
In the case of these, I'm just finishing up on 3 ARs....224 Valkyrie, 6mm ARC, and a rifle length .223 Wylde. Now I need some slower rifle powders that fit all three of these. CFE 223 or Varget, in a pinch some H335.

Glad I stocked up on powder and primers a year and half ago. Did alot of reloading but I'm afraid to shoot em. Don't like my stock to run low just in case.

I've picked up my shooting and loading more this year over last. Still well behind "normal" but as I see that components are increasingly available, though at mind-numbing price increases, I'm more open to using up my supplies. I have enough to last me for quite a while, even more since I've also increased purchases of factory ammo. I guess I've proved that I'll pay what I have to, even more than I want, just to stay active in my only true vice.

We hope to see wisdom with age, but we're frequently disappointed by garrulous stupidity.

I missed all the problems with the price of primers going up. At last count I had 45K Federal Small Pistol Primers that I paid $28 per 1K.

4 years ago I was going to move to assisted living do to health issues. Everyplace had a rule of no guns or reloading equipment so I had to sell all my guns and primers.

A friend was very lucky. He bought my guns, my Dillon 650 with every upgrade available and all my primers. He just kept pealing $100 bills off.

Shortly after the sale I was told by my partner that we weren't going to move. We have a beautiful house and she wanted to keep the view.

Oh well.

Like my mentor said to me what are you going to do quit shooting? Of course not so yeah I’m not happy to be paying more but I’d rather not run out!

PS if primers do come down again I plan on buying all that I can afford and maybe some extra just in case!

Good for you! You probably picked those up at the same place I did. I had the same reaction you did when they showed up, but, I'm back in business now! I was down to my last 200 Remmy 7 1/2 primers and I didn't think I would be able to find anymore for a very long time. They are my primer of choice for anything that calls for small file.

If you don’t get to play with guns or can’t reload in retirement, what sort of retirement is that after all? It seems more like a prison than assisted living.

A lot of the assisted living facilities are little better than a prison. If you talk to the staff and administrators they tell you it has to be that way for the residents own good. I won’t put my dad in one of them and he won’t go if I try. Don’t blame him. Now, mind you, I’m not saying it’s right or wrong or good or bad. Just that’s how some places are run.

I'm lucky enough to still have a lot of primers from a better time. I would love to say I saw the shortage coming 2 or 3 shortages ago but I didn't. I was being. cheap actually. When I saw the prices starting to climb instead of buying 2k at a time I bought 5k when I say good prices at a show. At the moment I have SPP available to me plus all the other sizes too. The only down point is having to spread them over different houses of my family to comply with the local fire laws lol. None of my primers cost me over $25/k and most were bought @ $20 or just a hair more and some I still have actually cost me $15/k.

I'm not posting this to brag, I'm just saying I'm happy to still have enough primers not to have to pay these inflated prices and wish others have had good luck too. I really feel sorry for anyone just getting into reloading. Powder, primers and even bullets were so difficult to find for a.long time now.
