Around here, the two major LGSs(one local and one 30 miles away) sold firearms at about the same cost as you could buy them online. Both are approved FFLs for major online gun stores. From what I understand, their primary sources have dried up and they are having to go to secondary sources to restock their shelves. Thier prices are still below MSRP on most guns, but not cut as much as before. I'd assume those stores that sold at MSRP before, can't really raise their prices above that.....yet. Back in 2010, I stopped at a LGS about 50 miles south-southeast from where I live. They had a new 6" S&W 686 in the display case with a $999 price tag on it...at that time, about $200 over MSRP. When I questioned the clerk about it, he told me it was a collectors item now that S&W had discontinued making them and you couldn't get them anymore....... When I called his bluff on it, he just grumbled and walked away. Whenever there are times like this, there are going to be folks like that True Value Store in South central Wisconsin, that will attempt to take advantage of folks that may be desperate or naive. Human greed raising it's ugly head.
