Hatchet knife Exchange-a-blade

Really more knife-hatchet on a common handle. This one is a Kabar up for auction, but many companies made these hunter's sets "last century".

I've tried these in the wild.
The hatchet blade might be able to split kindling, but I doubt it.

Just added complexity and weight.

Those hatchets weren't intended to chop wood. They were for chopping through heavy bone in large game like elk or moose when breaking them down to pack out in pieces.

How did the blades swap out? Is that button part of the operation?

Yep, more of a cleaver than a hatchet.
