That's because people refuse to accept the idea of a 3rd or independent party. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. A good example is if enough people believe the AR will soon be regulated out of existence it probably will be. I see a lot of that thinking here on this forum because of the media.

The fact is the media drives the elections, not campaign money. If they put a 3rd party into play (like they did Trump, he really isn't a republican) it's a whole new ballgame in 2020.

You hit on it at the end. The media is driving this. I go back to the weeks directly after Newton. CNN was running a constant ticker on year to date gun deaths. Making clear their over all agenda for more gun control.

NOT fixing schools
NOT keeping our kids safe
NOT wanting to constructively take a unbiased look at the problem

Just ban the guns

The same is true for a third party. Until the elites running the media see a benefit(for themselves) then there is no reason to do anything other than pay lip service to 3rd party runs here and there.

I don't think Trump is being strategic unless you consider sacrificing principles to gain political support to be good strategy.

If he wanted to respect and uphold the 2nd amendment, he should simply offer a coherent, convincing defense of it and a debunking of the mostly irrelevant gun control proposals of the left. Sadly, he is not the right man to do that though.

On Constitutional issues, I feel like we are a ship without a rudder for now.

Historically, midterm elections almost always go against the president’s party. So the only question here is by how much.

I don't think Rs will lose the house in November .... but their majority will, in my opinion, be slimmer.

I hope you are right, or all the good work this President has done will be undone, meaning tax incentives for large companies , and the stock market, jobs, immigration and a dozen other things he started to fix, will be tied up in the courts for the duration of his term. That's aside from the pro-gun legislation going down the toilet, and then we will have a real problem.

I honestly don’t think Trump cares enough about gun rights to be playing some sort of chess game. He ran on a pro gun platform to gain votes vs his opponent who was anti.
