He (Didn't) Go to Jareds!

Hi all,

Well, I wrote the company through the website and here's their predictable reply:

Although some states have passed laws that allow residents to carry concealed weapons and firearms, private employers have the right to ban weapons and prohibit persons with weapons from entering the premises. For the safety and security of our customers and store employees Jared, the Galleria of Jewelry has made the decision to ban weapons and anyone possessing them from entering the store.

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Sincerely,

Monica Warren
Customer Relations

I've made my point, and taken my business elsewhere. May they stay safe.

V.A. Tech had the same right for the safety of their students and visitors. How safe were they? Worked out real well didn't it?:fire:

I'm late to this one, I read the post from July just now. Good ol search!

I was just so shocked by this today when I went there to look at wedding bands with my fiancee. I briefly scanned some kind of message by the door but proceeded onward without really thinking. Then it sank in and I froze in my tracks, turned around and read it again. I couldn't believe it.

Once inside I met up with my fiancee and said, "I"m not shopping here." To which she replied, "Ok." Man, I love her. Then she asked why and I said, "I'll show you on the way out."

We left and I showed her this:

Well, in the next year or so I'm planning on acquiring an engagement ring; now I know where NOT to shop.

Maybe I'll mail them and tell them exactly why they aren't getting thousands of dollars worth of my business, or the business of anyone I know. My safety, and the safety of my girlfriend, are more important than a ring or the process of shopping for one.

Not "maybe" folks - it's not gonna sink in unless you do Step 2:

Step 1: Don't spend money at places that go out of their way to insult legitimate firearms owners.

Step 2: Talk to the manager/owner, and let them know that you spent money somewhere else, and make sure they know why.

Step 1 does a little.

Step 2 does a LOT.

They put in a Jared's at my local (well, not local, but the closest) mall last year. I haven't been in there, haven't had a need.

I do have a need to go to this mall tomorrow so I think I'll stop by and see if they have one. I have never ever seen a no guns sign in this state (then again I've only been looking for about a year) so this would be a first for me.'

If I see one, I'll make it a point to go in (carrying, of course - nothing illegal about it unless they're serving alcohol on the premises) and talk to the manager, and mention to him I'm getting married in a few months, and G.M. Pollock is right across the road.

You should have gone to Mervis. Better quality, much bigger selection and a lot lower price. for a .75 carat Mervis was $1,500 cheaper for a higher grade diamond from Jareds and shaws and several others in the area.

I have never ever seen a no guns sign in this state

Ditto . The only places that DO have them are bars and of course the court houses . Since I go to neither , I'm not sure what the signs look like :D

Btw , when shopping for my wife's engagement ring and our wedding bands I open carried (was 90 deg , 95% humidity) and the only comment I got at the jewelry store was " nice piece" . Needless to say , they have gotten all my business when it comes to jewelry , and they beat the pants off of jareds for price.

There is no such sign at the Jared's in Manchester, NH. I dropped a big wad of cash there several months ago. I would not have, had there been a no CCW sign. They did have an armed guard inside the store, but he was not the only one armed. ;)

Those signs work like magic to stop robbers.

Anyway diamond rings are a fool's investment. The diamonds themselves aren't worth very much and aren't particularly scarce. Anglo-American (which isn't remotely American) has a virtual worldwide monopoly on the trade and keeps the prices artificially high by restricting wholesale purchases to trade fairs in old Europe like some medieval guild.

You're much better off investing in gold bricks. But maybe that's why I'm still single.

Cosmoline, there are lots of women who light bright shiny things.

As for spending money at one without a sign...

If one of them posts a sign, by golly, as far as I'm concerned, they've all put 'em up. And none of 'em want my business.

Of course, with only 60,000 members here, most of whom are physically unable to take five minutes to send a polite note to the corporate management, folks in this forum, and others, will never be able to have even one of these signs removed as the company is led to realize the error of its ways.

I don't believe i've ever seen a sign like that anywhere except gun stores (no concealed or loaded is pretty universal from what i've seen)
Perhaps I am misreading this?
My favorite local gun shop has a sign on the door welcoming us to carry concealed and loaded in their store. Offhand, I can't think of a gun shop around here which prohibits concealed carry....Walmart doesn't count.

But I didn't go to Jared's either. Partly because of those stupid TV ads, but mostly because I couldn't find the freakin' store to begin with! The map showed it on the outskirts of a high-end poofy-poofy mall, yet it was actually in the center of the mall. So I went to a local jewelry store chain which has been around town far longer and had the same items for less, with no sign on their door (that I saw). The results were the same: My wife loved the gift and she forced me to go to the gun shop the next day and buy myself a present.

According to that sign--it seems I can't even have a pocket knife in the parking lot.

Maybe they'll quit playing that whiney jingle on the radio now----please please please.

Seems they need to aim their marketing to those actually spending the money instead of trying to piss them off.

okay all you ring shoppers who ended up going elseware, you have one more step to complete

Go in, show them the recepit and tell them why they lost your business

They don't care that I don't like the sign, I don't buy jewelry, but showing them losses of sales will matter

"I wonder if there is a list somewhere like vcdl.org's but for Texas."

I wonder if there is a national list? At least a list of national corporate chains? that would make buying (or boycotting) much easier...

I've only seen 1 "no firearms" sign in my lifetime living in Indiana...Definitely never at a Jewelry store.

Granted, the only jewelry store I'd go to is owned by a family friend and if I wasn't carrying a firearm when I entered his store, he'd lend me one.:)

Screw 'Jareds'.... and their pretentious advertising.

You can always do better than chain stores with a talented small shop jeweler.

Be a total D bag!...

Just for fun, wear an empty but big holster under a light jacket or vest and when the staff/security goes , show them you have no firearms! :D

It would be worth it!

Jarrad's does not exactly have the best stones available.
They are pretty far down on the list and purchase the leftovers from other places.

Update:

Well, it's official. I've finally seen a no guns sign in Maine.

I'm definitely going to let them know they're not going to have my patronage. The only reason I didn't today is because I had my daughter and was on a tight schedule.
