I won't pretend to know how all these religious organizations decide what violence is acceptable and what is not, but I think the key here is that this is a "PRIVATE" organization. As we gun owners like to point out, as a private org they can do whatever they want, and the opinion of non-members is in no way relevant.
The org is supported by money from the members, tuition or otherwise. Sounds like an internal issue if there ever was one. If the member doesn't like it they can take their money and walk. If they want to do that over something this predictable and frankly, this stupid... that is certainly their prerogative. Personally I'd just use it as an opportunity to teach junior that we don't always get exactly what we want, and that is a part of life. But what do I know; there is probably a good reason I'm not a parent.
Personally I think it's stupid to let someone else teach my kids what I should be teaching them - It's not your duty to educate my child, it's my duty, just as it's not the police's duty to defend my family - it's my duty.
Personal responsibility really doesn't mean anything anymore does it?
He said he made the decision because he didn't want to offend anyone.

Apparently. Nowadays, personal responsibility is more the homage and taxes we owe the government for making it the distributor of our rights and responsibilities as it sees fit and when it sees fit. Keep in step or you'll miss out on your rations.
On the plus side of it all, you(generically) don't have to worry about blame for anything since it's always someone else's fault now.
ETA: On another note though, there will always be things schools teach or do that run contrary to what any parent (liberal or conservative) believes for their children. Yes, you have to stand up against those things but also take the time to teach it at home as well. I do it with guns, evolution, et al. You can't always beat or change the system but neither does every disagreement need to turn into a rage against the machine.

Indeed it looks more like an Mp5. Looks good I see no reason why it should not be aloowed in the contest.
I can't believe that someone didn't pick up on the Church logo before now. It has a sword right in it. Try to make a correlation between the sword from biblical times and the AR as the common man's sword of today. Metaphorically speaking, that quote that says if you do not have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one (or something like that) can be modernized by something like 'if you do not have an AR, sell your designer sneakers and buy one'.
What was the point of this contest?
