I don't get it. I open up my safe last night and happen to pick up my Sig 220ST on a whim. The first thing I notice is that theres rust on the hammer. :what: I couldn't believe it. I haven't taken this particular handgun to the range in a couple of months. The last time I did take it out I cleaned and lubed before putting it away. The gun safe is in my basement and has a golden rod in it. The basement is bone dry. I'm at a loss here.

I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend. I'm pulling all my guns from the safe to inspect for rust. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident with this particular handgun.

This ever happen to anyone else?

Yeah, but in this,"Salty Solution" we call Southeast Texas air/humidity,

It becomes part of your regular regiment, or your guns tend to not wanna shoot when you need them. Especially if you carry a trunk gun:uhoh: :cuss:

PS-Observations from salty south, Polymers frames and oiled slides work wonders as rust inhibitors :).

Rust on a Sig? You must be mistaken.

Sorry.

I'll bet you just forgot to oil that part last time you cleaned it. Hopefully the rest of your safe is rust-free.

sounds odd
must of missed the hammer or last wipe down ??????????
I had better check mine

What safe are you using?

I am asking, because the type of insulation in the safe may be the cause.

If the safe uses a dry insulation (will know after you tell me who makes the safe) then you may need to add a desiccant to the safe to absorb and remove moisture.

If you are using a safe with moist insulation (like a document safe), there's not much you can do about the moisture. If this is the case, you'll need to find another way to store your guns.

Rust on a SIG!!! Nah! Never happen... :neener:

Except on my P220 that is. It really doesn't matter what I do. My SIG rusts but only on the grip screws and hammer oddly enough. A good soaking in CLP slows it down but only just. Now I give the thing a gander at least once a week and if necessary scrub the affected parts with a nylon brush and CLP.

I love that SIG - HELL! It is my normal carry gun when I'm not packing a pocket gun. But man - it is really annoying for a gun that expensive to rust - especially in the heart of Oklahoma where it is relatively dry most of the time.
