I store my guns in safes in the basement. There stored next to the oil tanks in the furance room. The basement is pretty dry. I have dri rods and rechargible deHumidifier's in the safes. But the deHumidifier's need to be recharged about 1-2 months. I have a deHumidifier in the other part of the basement, but i was thinking about put another deHumidifier right by the safes.

Was wondering what is the best and least amount of work to keep the moisture down and the rust off.

Don't go overboard. There is a fine line between protecting against rust and getting the air so dry the wood on your stocks starts to split. I'd say unless you start seeing rust problems be at ease with what your doing. And remember that no amount of dehumidifying in the world replaces periodic weapons cleaning and lubrication.

I live in South Florida(home of humidity) and have my gun safe between the washer and dryer and I've never had a problem with rust...just use proper rust preventing products(RemOil,Breakfree).

Me thinks you may be a little too paranoid about rust. Just make it a habit to wipe them down monthly with a towel that's been wetted with Break-Free or G96 CLP and you should be fine.

1 18 watt Goldenrod (that has been in operation continuously) has kept my guns rust free in a 30 cu/ft Treadlok for 20 + years here in Florida. Heat pushes humidity out, silica gel draws it in. Or so I've been told. Joe

I third the use of a Goldenrod. Works great for me, but I also give my weapons a good inspection and ragging down on occasion to make sure all is right.

I use a rechargeable dessicant in an aluminum container I bought at midway.(about the size of a ciggarette pack) it has a window that shows the beads inside. when they look pink it is time to throw the thing into the oven and recharge(beads turn blue)

I had been using the rechargeable dessicant but i found my Gammo air rifle the barrel had rusted and i found rust on M1 lock screw. I thought i had oiled the M1 pretty good.

I added DRI rods to the safes, which are the same thing as the golden rod.

But i still have to recharge my dessicants more often then i would like to. Every month or so seems a bit much to me.

Was thinking i have more moisture then i would like to.

I guess i am little parnoid, but after finding rust and spending hours cleaning it up, I think you be too.

Just trying to take every precaution i can.

I can attest to the efficacy of the Bullfrog products. One emitter cup lasts for a year in a small safe (5 cubic feet). It's a different rust-prevention mechanism than dehydration products. It chemically binds to the metal where rust would otherwise form. I've used one in my safe for a couple of years now in a pretty humid basement. No rust on anything.
