Perhaps the good gun shop man was trying to spare your feelings. Hi-Point Carbines are known to be relaible shooters, but they have a cult like following among the homies and gangbangers. The antigun folks put them in a catgory with "Assault Weapons" and name them by name in new gun ban bills. Fine with me, as it takes some of the heat off M1-A's and Saigas. Shortages are due to demand and production problems I am quite confident in believing. My favorite gun store quit stocking them because they were worried about their "gun trace" count. In spite of that, they still have a Hi-Point pistol or two, seems they don't sell as well. If you like Hi-Point carbines, more power to you. Brother!
