I have $550 bucks and I am looking for a good 9mm.
No CCW, just range and home defense.
I would prefer full size. Heres what I am thinking:

Glock 17
Beretta 92
Sig 226 (strongly leaning toward this at the moment)
Ruger SR9 (Dont know the price on it)

I have held everyone except the SR9, They are all fine in my hand.

So which one? Maybe you guys know one in my price range thats good as well.

Thanks.

Any of those guns are fine. You might also want to consider these;

CZ 75B
Springfield XD9
S&W M&P9

The Sig would need to be used or a CPO (certified pre-owned) at the $550 price point. Though that's not necesarilly a bad thing.

Instead of the Glock 17, look at the 34 - bascially it's a 17 frame with a longer slide.

Personally, I'd get the G19 because it's easier to conceal. Why no CCW? You may not CCW now, but it's a possibility in the future. If it's not allowed, you can always move.

The new Ruger is WELL in your $ requirement. I have handled one (not shot it) and it feels REALLY good to me. It is the smallest double-stack grip I have ever handled. Looked like a nice gun to me AND it has a thumb safety!

+1 to Lobotomy Boy in post 3. My M&P was $490 new plus tax. i only have about 1000 rounds through it, but I have never had a problem with it functioning properly. But as aforementioned, all are good.

I'd still get the G19. Why no CCW?

Well figure his requirements are no CCW, just for range and home defense, so he either can't legally carry / doesn't want to, or maybe already has some carry guns.

While the G19 can be a good fit, for home/range the G17 or G34 would be a better choice.

I forgot to mention the M&P would be a good choice as they still have the $50 rebate and 2 free mag deal.

That's true, D-Man. It's just the G19 is such a great all around carry/self-defense pistol. 15+1 should be plenty and he wouldn't be giving up that much in barrel length and sight radius over the G17.

I wouldn't rule out the 5900 series of Smith&Wesson semi-autos. These are well-made, reliable, accurate, vastly under-rated pistols that can be found rather cheaply in the used gun market due to a glut of "police trade-ins".

Of your choices, I'd get the Sig 226:) My favorite 9mm isn't on your list, but the CZ75 is a solid choice.

if your open to other sigs you might be able to find a new sigpro 2022 in 9mm with nitesites from the factory for $550 thats what they go for new around here.

Okay I looked up the CZ. The mags drop free right? I compared it to another CZ and it listed it as an Added feature.

I kinda like the looks of the Sig a little bit more, But It doesnt matter what the gun looks like. Value and price are my concerns right now. If it shoots well and hits point of aim, thats all that matters.

M&P9! Made in USA!

Very reliable. Full size and compact size to chose from. Also, a 5" might be coming this year.

SA xd

a SA xd looks nice and it comes with the accessory kit too. It is a little bit more pricey. if you need a little longer barrel they come in the tactical version. I plan on getting on with my tax return.:D
