I've only had my Smith&Wesson Sport for 3 weeks now and its already had 300 rounds through it. I won't keep this pace up, but it'll be 2000 rounds + fired by this time next year.

I picked 1,000 - 2,000 for the AR, all in matches. I would like to do more, but the M1a and Garand need shooting too!

I started shooting highpower matches last year with my AR Service Rifle, and have 5,445 rounds downrange, the great majority in practice sessions. I tailed off a bit the last few months, shooting more handgun, but in my initial 12-month span, the count comes to 4,326 rounds.

I shoot 1000-2000 a year out of my ar, I have 3 though. So total rounds would be 4-6 k a year. Why not, ar barrels are cheap and so is the ammo if you reload.

I shoot 2-3 times a week. I dont compete. Dont see the need. Just 200-300 a week for target practice, shooting cans and shotgun shells off the ground at 75 yards. 5000+ per year easy.

Would like to shoot more, and did in the past, but I work a lot. I fired nine (30 rd) magazines this past week but more normally 2-3 sessions a month of 2 or 3 magazines and the occasional more sustained session. 1500 in the last year would be close.

Definitely way less than 1,000 a year. Use to go a whole lot more years ago but things happen and that free time I use to have to go the range with my buddy became time spent doing something else. Back then probably burned through 200 to 300 rounds a range visit; 2 to 3 times a month.

I shoot my stuff to test ammo and initial zero, find where they hit at various distances.
After that they pretty much just get used hunting.
Check before season, that's about it.
The kids like to "practice" with the AR and others.
But for me it's like riding a bike.
Even if a gun hasn't been shot for a couple of yrs, I'm back in the groove within 10 shots.
Yeah, that "lighter than I remembered" trigger turns into the "heavy POS I thought it was" LOL

I figure once the "new" wears off of my Smith&Wesson, I'll just do a 30 round mag every weekend, which will come out to about 1500 rounds/year.

I've been stocking up on XM-193 at Cabela's, bought 1000 rounds so far. Its on sale for $6.74/box and I'm getting 10% off of that + free shipping.

Start shooting 3 gun, tactical rifle matches or take training classes. You'll pass 3k/year easy.

I shoot less than 1000/year = not enough rounds. But being primarily a pistol shooter and having right handed/left eye dominance puts a damper on my rifle skills.

There are three firearms I actually train with, the other get shot purely for recreation. Those are a 1911, AR15 and pump 12 gauge. They all get about 100 rounds a month, so roughly 1,200 rounds each over the course of a year.

Almost time for a new barrel. You might give some thought to a training rifle. Mine is a 22LR version of my NM service rifle. Same weight, same sights, same pretty much everything.
Great for offhand practice.

I wouldn't necessarily think 5k was a benchmark for a new barrel. The ammo shot, the WAY it was shot, etc all come into play when barrel life is considered, and many people have reportedly gone 20k plus without an appreciable degradation of accuracy.....so....why would you suggest replacing 4x sooner than that?

Ar

I spend most of my shooting time with pistols. I do get down and shoot the AR prone a couple of times a month... Maybe 40 rounds per session (at my age, getting back up from prone is most of the work)....so the yearly total is not high.
If I were to go into Service Rifle match shooting, I'd surely have to raise the number of rounds down range.

Yep - I'm on my 2nd barrel. I have a Compass Lake .22 upper as well.

I've fired just over 4,000 rounds so far in my AR's this year, but I'll be hard pressed to make it to 5,000 before the year ends due to buying a house. Of those rounds 1k each was 9mm, 5.45x39, and 7.62x39. The rest were .308, .223, 300blk, 5.7, and .22lr. I'm on my 24th AR now, but 1/3 are calibers other than .223, which is more affordable, plus I reload which can save money on occasion.

Now since I loaded 485 rounds of 30-06 Match for my Garands, I guess I'll try those out for Labor day.

Like others I'd have to ask which one?

I've got 3 "technically":

M&P 15-22 (.22LR) probably around 2K
Colt AR6951 9mm: 1500+
Colt LE6920, 5.56 about 1K and that includes a 2 day carbine class

I shoot the .22LR and 9mm far more even though I reload everything, because I can use them on my AR500 targets at CQB distances. Although I can get components for both for about the same, the 9mm is easier to crank out on the Dillon since I don't have to lube etc. Since I've set both the 9mm and 5.56 up virtually the same, there's value in training with both.

Somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 over several AR rifles. I have two Colt SP-1 rifles that see moderate use and my Colt Sporter Target and a 24" barreled Double Star see more use. I likely shoot more 223 and also 308 in my bolt guns.
