I was just wondering how much is too much? I know you can never have enough ammo or guns .. but how much ammo does the average THR member keep for crazy situations?? just a curiosity I had..

I dont have many guns or much money, but right now I have close to 2K in 7.62x54R, and about 4 hundred rounds of .357/.38.

Ideally I would have no less than 1k per long gun per caliber.

I really don't understand these kind of questions. In many respects a box of 20 might be quite adequate for some calibers.

I have a couple guns I have no ammo for.

ELEVENTY BILLION ROUNDS

I was just wondering how much is too much? I know you can never have enough ammo or guns ..

Why do people ask questions they already know the answer to?

Ah, ammo "ladies of the evening," beware, Agent Schmuckatelli may be listening.

Seriously, since all the wholesalers ship it out through 'net sales on CCs, the trails are firmly established for them to follow already.

I presently have more than most, not as much as some, and never as much as I would like to have.

"Enough" is enough to burn out every barrel you own.
More than that, you won't be able to shoot it.
Less than that, and you'll have to buy more at higher prices.

I think you need to have enough to shoot several of your typical outings available at a minimum. Keep more of your favorite calibers and try to buy in quantity for the stuff you might really shoot a lot of.

I've got enough

Right now I have.....1000 rounds of 22 LR, 1200 rounds of 7.62x39, 2400 rounds of 40 S&W, and 250 rounds of 357 mag. Grand total = 4050 rounds.:D

I have a couple of cases of .22LR, but does that even count?

Ammo that should not count in your totals:

- 22 rimfire ammo (except .22 magnum)
- stuff you bought at WalMart because it was on sale and you might find some use for it some day
- full cases of ammo bought for future shooting activities but not yet opened. only open cases should count in your total since you have no way of knowing just what is in that sealed case. it could be full of bricks.
- reloaded ammo should not count, because you counted it once already

Years ago I started setting up my own ammo production for all the major milsurp calibers using multiple Dillon 650 presses, we cast bullets for most calibers (my step kids really enjoy this part) oddball calibers like Swiss 6.5x55 I only keep a few thousand rounds on hand for but the 7.62x51, 7.62x54R, .303 brit, and handgun cals, a minimum of 10K rnds each, I buy military surplus powder in bulk as well as surplus ammo when its available cheap 9I still have over 8K rnds of the Norinco steel core green box 7.62x39 from the early 90s) but when the price is up I just leave it alone, my MG42s and the 2 1919a4a eat up alot of ammo in a hurry so 7.62x51 and 7.92x57 are kept at pretty high levels, at the moment the ammo room (12'x65'x8') is completally full when a caliber gets low (we host shoots every weekend with usually 30-40 guests) then we load for that caliber... When I'm home I'm usually shooting something everyday, the range is in the back 40 and I can use anything up to my .50 bmgs without raising any eyebrows so when ya don't have to travel to a range to shoot ya tend to do more shooting

Have more than anyone I personally know ( including a few smiths and shops) but not enough for my own personal preferences.

I think that pretty much covers me too! Well said.

Not nearly enough.

Is there a legal limit to the number of round you own?

Some localities (maybe some states too) have limits on the number of rounds allowed in their fire codes.

Most localities (or states) have limits on how much gas you can store in your garage in cans. Many people might well be shocked to learn they are in violation of the gas laws.

I think it is MD that has a state law limiting residences to 1000 primers. I don't recall that loaded ammo is exempted from the total number of primers allowed.

How much do you have. Please detail how many guns you have, how many calibers and how much ammo you have for each caliber.

I'm wondering - *** buisness is it of your's, how many guns and how much ammo I have.

Come knocking on my door some night around 3 AM and I will show you.

I will even give you a 100 yard head start.

You guys come on here bragging and the next thing you know - this character will come to your house some day when you are not home and you will have nothing.

A little quote from Married With Children. I got a 30/06 wired to the front door and hand grenades wired to the back door and 10,000 volts wired to the windows.. Al says - how do you get in the house.. Other person reply's - wouldn't you like to know!

:scrutiny: You know, you could have just...not answered?

That kind of poseur bit is an inauspicious start for a new member here. Ixnay on the attitude...you won't see much of it here, and it's not really welcome.
