How much ammo do you keep stocked up?

Hey, don't use big words I don't know the meaning of like facetious or inauspicious..

Can you say - blunt!

I live in a little old coal mining town where everybody knows everybody.
Even the phone company isn't willing to spend the money to run new lines out to the place or even to have DSL Internet service here.

One night the phone company had a problem with their lines and got mine mixxed up with some other customers line and told the State Police that they had a hang up 911 call. The State Police came a knocking on my door in the middle of the night and I came to the door in my underwear holding a 10 GA shotgun.

They ran off the porch like bee's were chasing them. When they found out that it was a mistake. They started asking me if there was other residents in my town that has the same last name as I do. I told them yes - but if you knock on my fathers door in the middle of the night you are going to be greeted with a .357 and not a 10 Ga. If you knock on my grandmothers door - and she is 95 years old. You are going to be faced with a son and a grandson holding 30 / 06's.

They banged on my fathers door. He gave them hell. They left and didn't come back. Then my father called 911 and gave them hell and then he called the phone company and tore them a new bung hole. The State Police has not been back since.

Average family members supply, 10,000 rounds each! 10 ga, 12 ga, 20 ga, .410, .22, .308, .300 Savage, .270, 30 / 06 govt., .22 mag, .357, .38 special, 30 - 30 win.

No machine guns, and I think that they should make all machine guns illegal and confiscate them and melt them and turn them into manhole covers.
Nobody needs to own a SKS or a Uzzi or a Thompson....

1000 - .357 Magnum
500 - 38 Special
2000 - 9MM
5000 - .22lr
300 - .22 magnum
100 - .223 Rem
30 - 35 Rem

I don't think of this as a lot of ammo, but some people think I have an arsenal.
A matter of perspective, I guess.

i try to keep about 1,000 rounds for the little stuff (under.223) and for the 7.62. I would like to have about 500 for all the big stuff 7mm and up.:D

Earlier you asked what business it is of anyone to know how much ammo you stock. Now I ask, with all due respect, love, and kisses, *** business is it of yours if a man owns an MG or SKS? You do know that the SKS is semi-auto and much like any other semi-auto hunting rifle that many people have. What about a scoped BAR in .300 WinMag? Is that OK with you? I bet more damage could be done with that than with an SKS.

Either you are for the right to keep and bear arms or you are not. This really is a black and white issue.

oops seems some people got a little heated in this thread.. As for the people asking "WHY DO YOU WANT TO KNOW?" or "WHY ARE YOU ASKING QUESTIONS IF YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO" .. I thought I covered that it was pure curiosity .. I am young and curious .. no need to take offense .. thanks for all the input .. i need to get me alot more ammo!:what:

Hmm...well

.45acp...about 5000 rounds of ball
.45acp reloads about 5000 also SWC
.38spec roughly 300 rounds
.357mag roughly 500 or maybe 6
.22lr somewhere in the area of 7000+
.300 weatherby mag 70 approx
.44mag 20 rounds (have not had time to reload the 5000 rounds I have stocked up)

All approx...have not done an inventory in about a month. Bought 5000 rounds of Eley .22LR stuff from aquila. Great shooting .22LR.

Just depends really.

How much shooting do you do?
Are you a SHTF type of guy just being prepared?
Is it a $ issue?

Some ammo is a buck around or more no matter what you try to do, so obviously you'd keep less ammo on hand for a magnum rifle than you would for an M44. Sportman's Guide has 7.62x54R going for just under $40 for 440 rounds, so why not get a bunch?

I don't really know how much I have of any particular caliber, or I ain't saying. :) Suffice it to say I have enough for most of my barrels, though a couple are lacking atm.

I do keep a bunch of 12ga on hand because I like shooting clays and quail. A man can burn up a bunch of 12ga in an afternoon shooting clays, especially if he invites some friends.

I love to shoot and i always end up shooting w/e I have stocked up .. the more I read up on the concerns of a future SHTF situation .. the more I feel I should start stocking up .. I will probly stock up a bunch of 7.62x39 seeing as I have a SKS and a AK47 .. not to mention the ammo is CHEAP! I was just wondering if people usually stocked up on mass shotgun, rifle, or handgun ammo .. like I said .. I am just curious what other people do ..

A lot.

In fact, I've been trying to cut down on my ammo stock - I'll be moving in a week or two, and carrying several thousand rounds of ammo in multiple calibres is a pain in the butt!

I need to go shooting!

dang brentwal .. thats alot of ammo!!! I wish I had that much stocked up .. heck I wish I had 1/2 of that..

If you guize aren't going to answer the OP's question, just don't waste our bandwidth with a post (cute or not) that says you're not going to say.

Sheesh!

1250 rds 9mm
800 rds 22LR

moisture concerns

My local army surplus got in some nice ammo cans in before Christmas and I bought a BUNCH. So I started buying a lot of 100 round WWB packs.

Does anyone know where I can buy some of the small dessicant packs for the cans similar to what is packed with food or are they needed...??

Back on topic, I want to keep on hand around 1000 9mm, 500 45, 500 38,
1000 357 and 5,000 22lr.

Co-incidentally I just took inventory tonight.

I actually surprised myself because I found a case of South African .308 battlepacks I forgot I had.

The total number surprised me, actually. Taking current market price as a belwether, I have more invested in ammo than I have invested in our family vehicles.

You can't possibly have too much ammo unless you can't lift it by yourself.

Did I mention I own my own forklift?

I have several milsurp cans and battle packs for everything military, and several boxes for each. My guideline is a basic combat load for every type of weapon, as it was originally intended.

Beyond that, a few boxes for each.

Oh, and enough for the belt fed weapon I really don't care if some n00b approves of or not.

Besides, the Army issues me bigger toys than that to play with on weekends.

Not enough evidently. I have about 600 rds of .45ACP and 1200 or so of .22LR
500 or so of 5.56 and 100 or so of 30-06 and .308. I usually keep enough for a range trip in .45 and 5.56 and a bit extra betwwen restocking. I'm feeling a bit unworthy.

Either you are for the right to keep and bear arms or you are not. This really is a black and white issue.

I'm afraid it is not a black and white issue. Few issues are black and white. Many people do not like the proliferation of handguns and "black rifles" in our society, but few complain about what might be characterized as traditional hunting rifles or shotguns. I don't have any objections to owning any firearm.

Personally, I have no use for a SKS or an AK clone, but I would really like to pick up a good bushmaster (AR-clone) for plinking and casual target use. I enjoy shooting a Mini-14 quite a bit when I'm in the mood. Here is the kicker.... I don't think any of these rifles should be legal for hunting purposes. The only exception would be rimfires for small game and semi-auto centerfires for certain varmints. So, I am clearly not anti as I believe you should be allowed to own whatever you want to as long as you follow the law. I just hope the laws stay reasonable and don't push honest citizens into illegal ownership positions. Thank God I don't live in NYC, DC, Maryland, New Jersey, or California. The laws need to be changed in these places regarding ownership, purchase, and use.

Back to the thread topic, I keep a very healthy supply of stuff I shoot regularly. I have guns that I don't even have ammunition for. I'm not particularly worried about supply issues, but I am concerned about the price of factory ammunition. The current prices are not influenced by anti-gun legislation that I am aware of, but ammunition restriction is a round about way to neutralize firearms till they are just clubs for most people. Just think if the EPA decides that lead bullets cause cancer (hypothetically from vapors or emisions when shooting) and they become restricted. Not many other practical choices out there.

Once the Big Brown Truck of Happiness makes it's next delivery, I will have 7,000+ rounds, (not counting .22 caliber). However, that isn't nearly enough. My "Target Load" is at least 500 rounds for each of the "occasional-shooters" and 1,000/each for the rest. I'm still a long way from my Target Load.
