How much ammo do you keep stocked up?

+1

I can't imagine people put Monte Carlo stocks, scope mounts and QD bases on SKSes for the battlefield. Those rifles are set up for hunting, and they do it really well at a reasonable price with rock-crushing durability.

I love both of mine.

I'am horribly ashamed of my ammo supply...

Don't be ashamed. Just because some folks place a value on having thousands of rounds stashed doesn't mean you have to, or that you need to "feel" anything because you don't have what they've got.

I have enough to get me by. My good old standby rifle is a CVA buckhorn muzzle loader....I have more lead than I can think of to cast for it - and blackpowder ain't exactly a mystery anymore...

Lots and lots. Most of the ammo around the house is for target shotgun useage. WE're down a little right now, it being the off season, but probably have about 2000 rounds loaded in 28g and .410. Just picked up 10,000 primers and wads plus 16lbs of powder. Still need another 40 lbs of powder, 15,000 more primers and wads before the season starts back up. That'll should hold us through July. It's the lead that's killing me these days. What I paid $17.00 for last year, they want $26-$28 (25 lb bag.)

new member, asking for personal info. troll? Alphabet Fed employee?

I will that this as sarcasm in that I have stated MORE THAN ONCE that I am young and curious. No need for personal attacks. I laughed at the troll comment. Just for grins I thought I would put this in here:

A Troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others.

[sarcasm]I guess you provoked a reaction from me. Darn you win! [/sarcasm]

Trolling can even take the place of inserting facts, if said facts are objectionable to the members of the forum. Such as stating Hillary is a fascist, or the M1 Garand is an antiquated piece of garbage by any post-WWII standards:)

Asking for demographic information without ID or detailed background from members is not trolling.

If a new shooter were to read some of these posts he may be well discouraged by the end of the posts.
It may also open his eyes to the fact that it's NORMAL to have TENS OF THOUSANDS of rounds on hand - when a couple hundred seemed like a lot.

He also may be made aware of the fact that prices only go up, and supply only reduces - and thus a lifetime quantity is not unreasonable.

I was just wondering how much is too much? I know you can never have enough ammo or guns .. but how much ammo does the average THR member keep for crazy situations?? just a curiosity I had..

No your not the only one .. a bunch of people like you have already put there $0.02 in.. but thanks for the input! You guys make it seem so enjoyable for new young enthusiasts to begin a good hobby!! I thought I had covered it a few post's up on this page. I'll just chalk it up to people being EXTRA sarcastic lately!

I don't find that comment objectionable, in fact I find it to be rather accurate.

Jeez guys, if you're not going to answer don't waste everyone's bandwidth by posting you're not going to answer.

Sheesh!

I don't think many active THR members would be considered typical shooters or gun owners relative to how much ammunition is on-hand. There is a definite preference for the military styled rifle here and if you shoot these guns, you probably have a fair amount of ammunition on hand. This doesn't mean you are preparing for the next war. It just means you enjoy shooting.

Of course, semi-automatic (vs "automatic") with regard to previous posts. Many pistols and rifles are incorrectly referred to as automatic, but most know the difference. I stand corrected with not using proper precision in my response.

I enjoy shooting too much to keep a "huge" supply on hand, and since I am still in school, I'd go broke trying to stock pile like some of you guys/gals...But I do have a couple of cans w/ silica with 1000 rd's of various calibers that I try not to break into unless I'm out of my range ammo...

I'll just say I have 1 bullet for every zombie/BG that comes to my door...Maybe 2:D

No hard feelings, eh? :) I know what you meant as do most people here, but when the antis (including those lurking here) see the word 'automatic', they get their panties in a wad awfully fast. I've got some very antigun cousins that I try to set straight on a regular basis with regards to terminology. Believe it or not, they still just don't get it. :banghead: Oh well.

The last zombie I had to put down took 2 30 round mags of 5.56 to neutralize. 60 bullet holes and he just kept on coming. I think I'll use something with a little more heft next time.

well son, you post stuff, and you just need to take the flack that comes with it. Silly questions will usually generate a bunch of kindred replies. Of course some folks just post questions like this to see the replys roll in. Ego thing or something I guess.

Hmmm no self aggrandizing list of forum membership join dates or list of guns owned past, present or future. What an anomaly.

Heh...if you're like me, there probably isn't enough room on the page for those lists.:D

That type are busy making lists. I'm busy agitating and BUYING GUNS.

I love when people complain about threads. This is the internet. If it bothers you then turn the computer off. I don't take offense at all. I find that on every forum I post on there are *trolls there just to ruin people's threads. In a place where there are threads about zombies and aliens attacking, I get flamed for asking about stockpiling ammo. Go FIGURE! :neener:

Actually, I'm not sure the aliens have been mentioned yet, but I do know of at least one peer-reviewed professional book on potential alien threats and what strategies should be implemented.

The odds are slim, but to assume aliens would be friendly would be to make the mistake the Micmacs and Caribs made once. Once.

madmike....HA!

I wasn't flaming you, or mad. That's why I put in the neener tongue. I see you also did have a sense of humor.

Just consider this. If all the supposed "tinfoil hat" stuff about gungrabbing and confiscations were true, or if the internet could be used as a tool to document and track 'home arsenals' (the GREAT taboo of serious anti's worldwide), then info related to storage, amounts, types, etc, is all good for them, and BAD for the people trying to simply live free and enjoy their sport/practice/defense, whatever.

As for me, I don't keep any ammo on hand. I only go to Wal Mart and buy one box at a time when I shoot.:uhoh: (Wal Mart will ALWAYS be open and sell ammo, right?)

Seriously. While zombies are unlikely, the threat of alien invasion HAS been professionally discussed by the government and various think tanks.

If it ever happens, we do have plans.

If we're successful, you can thank the SF community, most of whom own guns (even card-carrying Commies like Eric Flint and Steven Brust), for making the issue believable to the masses, and enough PhDs aware of the subject to hold fora and do research.
