Yeah I can get that. [The washed out photo.] Looks like a double shovel boo though. Nice and hard to come by.
Thanks! I sure did enjoy my time living and hunting up in Western AK!

Jim,

Just out of curiosity, did you ever score that moose. He looks like a tank!

H&H Yeah that moose looks huge in the picture but he only measured 49 inchs spread. Only the 3 brow tines made him legal. Other wise 50 inch or more.
So I guess I'm saying he was just a "so-so" AK moose.
Edit: I will add though he had the most
symmetrical rack I've ever seen on a moose.

Copper bullets came 1st. They do offer some advantages over lead, some disadvantages too. You just have to understand how to use them. California requires their use in certain areas, maybe the whole state by now. They were not developed just for California.

I don't have any decent hunting photos in digital format. But I'm enjoying those posted so far, keep em coming.

jmr40-
That moose photo I posted was a print from a film camera I scanned and loaded on my computer. Came out pretty good for a $40 scanner/printer/fax machine.

On pure copper bullets- I tried the original Barnes "X" bullet[friend insisted he thought they where the bee's knee's]
Fouled the bore terribly. So why would I use them over my time tested Noslers?

I guess a leadless bullet law is no dumber than steel shot laws for waterfowl. THAT one will never be rescinded. But, the cost of lead is up, so there ain't a lot of difference in price of lead and cheap steel shot anymore, I guess. And, fasteel works well on ducks.

That there moose is a BIG animal. I'd go with a Barnes on one, I reckon, though my 7 mag shoots a 160 partition a lot better. I've used a 140 Barnes in my .308 for hogs, but I figured out since that my 150 Nosler BT load has PLENTY of penetration on hogs. I guess I bought the internet BS about exploding ballistic tips. I've proved that wrong, since.

I have hunting pix, but I'll save the band width. Nothing spectacular where I hunt, just deer, pigs, rolling plains and thick post oak woods. I think last time I saw snow was 2004. :D I'm stuck where I'm at, but I make the best of it. We have good game concentrations here, deer, hogs, small game, turkeys, run of the mill boring little critters, but they taste good. :D

2007 or so: 12 point whitetail shot while at a dead run (him, not me) at around 80 yards. He broke his left antler off when he cartwheeled after being hit. I'm actually holding the antler in place.

2008 or so- The spousal unit with a rather large smelly boar shot at around 100 yds.

2010 or so- A rather pregnant sow

The part of elk hunting you'll NEVER see in hunting magazines:

Dad, pushing 80 years of age with a nice west Texas buck killed after he walked nearly a mile across a pasture to the hunting spot. Killed it with his oh-so sweet CZ550 in 6.5x55. I believe he was using a handloaded 140 gr. Nosler Partition.

And finally my favorite hunting picture of all time. My Dad at 71, with his first bull elk killed at a little under 11,000', in conditions most men half his age couldn't have endured:

Same ol' '98 Mauser 35 Whelen with a 225 gr. TSX @ a hair under 2700 fps. Recovered bullet:

35W,

Thank you sir for the wonderful memories you've shared with us in those photos! BTW, where in North Texas are you? I used to have a lease in Paducah. The country in your Texas photos looks mighty familiar.

You are quite welcome!

I am a couple of hours north/northwest of DFW.

The reason that country looks familiar to you is because it is! All the deer and the hog you see were killed about 30 minutes south of Paducah. And those are but a drop in the bucket. I've been hunting and helping close friends with farming and working cattle out there for close to 30 years. I love the country and especially the honest, salt-of-the-earth, hard working people who live there.

Have to add one more because of the funny story. I rattled this buck up for my wife and she, in her true indecisive fashion said: "...should I shoot him? Is he big enough?" :what:

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I took a picture!

Yes sir....

Gods country! I like to live there someday. As far as the buck. Yeah BTDT once or twice, but I'm always to rattled to think to take a picture.:)

I had a lease on the Triangle Ranch for the better part of 13 years. We killed hundreds upon hundreds of hogs and a few nice deer along the way. Man oh man do I ever miss that place.

Great photos, 35 Whelen, Texans are always welcome here in NM. Looking forward to shooting some hogs in your state this winter.

Thanks, but I gave up trying to get drawn for elk in NM a few years ago. The odds of an unguided non-resident getting drawn have become incredibly low over the last several years.
But good luck with your hog hunt! We welcome non-residents!
