Longhunter.....I keep sows of any size and they are good eating, but boars I only keep up to about 100 lbs. I've found that I don't care for them any larger than that. The large boars would need some treatment to make them palatable as far as I am concerned. When you you get an obnoxious smell coming from the frying pan it is a real turn off.

Got it! same way with deer for me, the big bucks get kind of gamey. Got some friends that live and own a few acres in east Texas, one of these days i am going to make it down there and see if i cant scare up a pig or two.

I found a few. The last pic is my brother, top pic is most recent. I used to be a lot younger as it shows in the rest.

jmr40-
That moose photo I posted was a print from a film camera I scanned and loaded on my computer. Came out pretty good for a $40 scanner/printer/fax machine.

On pure copper bullets- I tried the original Barnes "X" bullet[friend insisted he thought they where the bee's knee's]
Fouled the bore terribly. So why would I use them over my time tested Noslers?

All of mine were scanned too. My wife went through all of our print photos a few years ago and scanned them onto an external hard drive. I only had a few on my computer and had to hunt these down from the other hard drive. Plus I've never been one to take a lot of hunting photos. Just don't have as many as I wish I did.

I'm neutral about Barnes bullets. I've experimented with them and get good accuracy, no copper fouling and by all accounts they kill stuff right well. They are exactly the same price as Accubonds or Partitions and I can see the advantages for someone hunting with a caliber considered borderline for the job.

I've thinned my herd down to a couple of 308's and 30-06's just to simplify my life. All of those rifles shoot 150-180 gr bullets close enough to the same point of impact at 100 to not worry about. At longer ranges the heavier bullets are predictably lower. For some reason the TTSX's have a far different point of impact even though accuracy is about the same. I could use them, but after zeroing my rifles for those bullets, all others would be several inches from zero. Primarily for that reason I've not hunted with them that much. Still haven't had one in the chamber when I had a shot at game. I'm inclined to not purchase any more once I shoot up the ones I have. But that doesn't mean I don't like them.

MC-
You need to remember where I live I consider Oregon to be Easterner's. Libs here? Good luck:D

Trust me this coast sucks... Hoping to get up to alaska by next year. Im tired living by the "kings" rules when it comes to hunting. All WA land is being locked up and only accessible if you buy a permit including state land. And when i asked my representative and congressman what they can do they simply replied " i have more important matters to deal with" Anyways... Cant wait to hunt some sitka blacktails up north!

Heres some photos of a few grouse.. Dont know why grouse hunting thrills me the most still. And a picture of some of my favorite grouse hunting area! old abandoned riverside roads. :D

Let's switch gears a little...

The last bird dog I guess I'll ever own, Grace. Born July '03, here at 5 months with her first retrieve and pointing and honoring at the same age:

In those days there weren't just tons of quail, but there were enough to train a pup.

Fast forward a couple of years to one of the last really good quail hunts I went on:

35 Whelen-

The whole famly used the same 100 gr Hornady? Thats one tough bullet!
Kidding aside I love you're NM photos. God it looks pretty out there.

Here's one from two days ago, pronghorn from here in NM. Rifle is Sako Finnlight in 6.5x55, Zeiss Conquest scope. Much better eating than the northern sage-eating antelope, these eat the same thing the buffalo did, native gamma grass, very high protein.

Interesting result of the impact of the 6.5x55, this is the second animal I've shot with it where it was literally disembowled, with the guts hanging outside the animal in a bag/membrane. My guide said he had never seen that happen. Of course, he said he needs a .300 Win. Mag. for pronghorn. :scrutiny:
