Peanut on her first range outing with my 223 contender carbine.

Yes she still has her finger on the trigger. She didn't know I was photographing her and when she turned to tell me how cool that was she still had her finger on it. She shot 60 rounds that day.

It was a big step up from her 17hmr lever. She really liked the scope.

Can someone point me to a good source/website to learn more about the type of gun Mr. Chitlin's wife is shooting in post #23? I'm looking to get a reliable carbine (or small rifle) like that.

Looks to me like a regular AR-15, plus a forward grip and some type of red-dot sight. It might have a short barrel, so that would be an extra $200 tax, IF your state allows it, but I am not sure if it is below 16" or not from the pic. If our state does not allow short-barreled rifles, or you don't want to pay the extra $200 tax to get a short-barreled rifle, then a 16" wouldn't be too much longer than what is pictured (again, that might even be a 16" barrel, I am not sure from the pic).

SBR

Well, above the pic, he does, in fact, say "SBR."

Assuming he knows whereof he speaks, that would make it a "Short Barreled Rifle."

Probably an Arkansas SBR at that.

I know there are some errors in stance / form. A lot of them were corrected, this was her first time ever shooting. Also any suggestions for things i didnt see would be great. (the redneck voice isnt me its a friend of mine that went with us, i had him help her because im too close to be very helpful)

How about when she pointed the gun to the left? Girls and new shooters in general really have a horrible tendency to want to look at a gun from the side when somethings "not working", in hopes that by looking at it sideways, it will magically function.

Maybe it was still downrange, but a inch or few more woulda been unsafe.

Anyways, the biggest thing i tell new shooter, have the web of the hand as high up as possible. Other than that, my idea of a good grip and yours might differ.

well except for the look at the gun from the side and her funny little stance, she actually looked to do quite well. I noticed she controlled the recoil very well which is uncommon in new shooters

lol yeah the look from the side i told her not to do anymore :p. as far as her stance... i kinda dont think i have anything to say to her... by the end of the day from 10 yeards they were all in the black with her weird stance with the 9mm 40 and the 45.

Here is my oldest. . .

Congratulations!!!:)

A couple pics, one from my local range, and the second from the MDshooters/THR get-together last october during a ceasefire, (I need to take more pics)

Congratulations!! Be sure to save that so it can be entered as the first "photograph" in baby's album. When one open's Morgan baby album...her ultrasound pic is front and center. :)

That lil gal will forever change how you view life!! I have only 3 regrets in my life, and one of them is, I wish I had had children earlier (at an younger age). Again, congratulations!!!

MR.CHITLIN, that is a great looking SBR.
could you please provide the specs. I want one just like it.

thanks.

Girls and new shooters in general

I think you mean "new shooters in general."

Experienced women shooters do not make that mistake.
Inexperienced men shooters do make that mistake.

That would make that a "new shooters" issue, not a "girls" issue.

About the only things that women shooters have in common are a few chromosomes and the irritations of men shooters making broad generalizations about our competency.

She did shoot my Gen 1 MK14 SEI at a steel ram
sitting 200 yards away and hit it every single time.

Funny, I just posted these.

Her first 3 were on semi and hit center mass. The range guy told her to aim lower left on full auto to compensate for recoil. This is negligible on an MP5 in my opinion, but you do not argue when it is their gun. Therefore, she hit where he told her to aim. I decided after this I would be with her forever whether I had a say so or not.

Has anyone at your range ever said why they have the "no head shots" policy? Just curious. Oh, and good shooting on your girls' part. definately a keeper.

Well, 7mmsavage, that was in Las Vegas. I don't really go to ranges down here in Texas since we have a huge pit with 30 ft walls on each side to shoot in. I understood their reasoning since they have people from all over come and rent guns there to shoot. Most of them know little or nothing about them and it is a safety consideration (especially since it is an indoor range). I talked with the guy before and after and he relaxed some of the rules when I was shooting after I showed him I was halfway competent. I'd be strict too with the people I saw in Vegas, yikes.

Disclaimer: This isn't a threadjack...

I just have to say how pleased I am to see the across the board safety considerations in the pics (ie; ear protection, eye protection, muzzle control, finger control and chambers cleared). I consider this board a wide sample of shooters and so far have determined that there are some great people hanging around here. Sometimes a trip to a public range can shake my faith in some gun owners. Thanks for restoring it. Good pics, love to see the children being involved.

No Head Shots

. . . why they have the "no head shots" policy?
To prevent (or at least minimize) damage to the equipment. Target carriers are expensive, and the "head" portion of the target is getting up toward the carrier.

(End of thread drift.)

Now, back to the ladies.
