I practiced restraint at my LGS today.

I can pass on the 8 3/8 smiths easy - unless one is in the insanely cheap range... could walk by a decent deal on the 8 3/8 deal in a 14 pretty easy and wait for a 6 inch or a 4 inch myself. They do shoot nice though :)

Regarding the 8 3/8" barrel , I own the "sister ship" to the revolver in question ; mine is a m.17 K22. Essentially the same gun in different caliber. It may look like a lot to handle , but when you find that you have rifle-like accuracy with a revolver it sure grows on you.

I've been walking away from my computer for a week.

I've tried to limit the number of handgun calibers I own: started out with just .38 special. Then of course added 9mm (a bunch). Then .380 (Beretta 85F). Then 32acp (Colt 1903). Finally succumbed to .45acp (Shield, Sig 245, S&W 4513TSW) and just recently "discovered" 38S&W (Colt Police Positive, H&R Topbreaks, S&W 38/200).

That's it, says I.

Then I sees a way cool pistol, a S&W CHP .40 cal 4006 TSW....and my best friend is a retired CHIP; I loves me TSW; and I ask myself, "What collection is complete without a .40 cal in it?"
I've been firm so far....but I feel myself weakening and I've heard a mummer from the safe saying "40 cal; 40 cal; 40 cal." It's getting louder.

I feel your "pain". My collection of handguns includes .22LR, .22 Mag, .25 ACP, .32-20, .32 ACP, .380 ACP, and .357 Magnum. I also have rifles that handle three of those ammos - .22LR, .22 Mag, and .357. :D

WestKentucky:

I got lucky. This 4" was only $200 used when I saw it sitting in the case around the year 2000 or so. The grips are Thai ones from eBay. The trigger on my friend's classic Smith Model 66 is just slightly better, but the two of us shot them both a bunch one day, and practical accuracy was the same. Taurus made some very nice revolvers in the late 80's and early 90's. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of yours.

IIRC, it's really just a fancy Model 66 with full lug and ribbed barrel. I think maybe there was also an in-between version that maybe had the full lug but not the rib.
