If you could only have 20 guns, lifetime, what would they be?

Warp, the one thing I notice your list is missing is a proper hunting rifle. Sure the M1a or 357 lever could be used. However, would you really want to go the rest of your life without one? Also, do you really want to choose all 20 now? I don't think firearms really change all the much but your tastes over time may change.

That is missing, yes. I have never gone hunting so that got pushed down the list to begin with, and I figured that most possibilities could be covered with the 12 gauges, .22lr, .357 lever or one of the semi auto rifles. Other than legal/magazine capacity issues there is no reason the M1A (with scope) or M1 couldn't do the job.

I did, for awhile while making the list, have a scoped bolt in .308 or .30-06 listed. Probably just a simple Savage (affordable to me). It just missed the final cut.

Just out of interest in the thread I challenge you to cut out 5 to leave room for other things at a later date. It's meant in good fun. Ya know, the kind of conversation we would have at a campfire. Your list is a good one.

That is the next step. Are you psychic, or did you read the same other thread I did before creating this? :)

I am going to have to end up with a ton of guns, because there are like a dozen Glocks that I want. And I am very handgun-centric. After all, I can carry them with me. How much good is a gun I have to leave behind almost all the time?

5 gun reduction (to 15)

Hey, wait a minute, according to Walkalong when he closed the Africa Militia thread, 'We don't do SHTF, end of the world, and other fantasy situations'.

If thats the case, why is this thread not locked?:neener:

A-HA!! My old attrition game. I first started running my version of this game thread on my board about 15 years ago and, still re-run it from time to time. The best part is that every one who plays along tells me that ever time they play, they learn something new that they'd not before considered.

I was about to list my 20 last night when I realized that I'd left my M1A SOCOM16 off the list and went to bed pondering which gun to remove to replace with the M1A.

So, since it wudda gone in this tier any way, I'll ignore it and first give you my 20, then the reduction to 15:

My Twenty (from my existing battery):

Browning Citori 12ga Uplander
Mossberg 500 12 ga with 18" barrel and 26" hunting barrel
Rossi 12 Ga Coach Gun

Ruger M77 243 - tang safety model
Ruger M77 RSI 308 - tang safety model
Marlin 1895 Guide Gun 45-70

Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited 44 Magnum
Rossi M92 44 Magnum Trapper
paired with
Ruger Bisley Vaquero 44 Magnum (4" barrel)
S&W 629 Trail Boss 44 Magnum (3" barrel)

Browning B92 357 Magnum
Ruger Blackhawk 357/9mm convertible

Kimber Custom Target 45ACP
Glock 30sf 45ACP
S&W 642 38 Special

Marlin 1897 Cowboy 22 rimfire
Browning 22 SA
Browning BLR 22 Rimfire
Ruger Bearcat
Ruger Single Six 22/22Magnum with 9 1/2" barrel

To pare that list down to 15 I would drop the two 357 mags (the Browning B92 & Ruger Blackhawk), the Browning BLR 22 lever rifle, the Ruger Bearcat, and the Ruger M77 243.

My list of 15:
Browning Citori 12ga Uplander
Mossberg 500 12 ga with 18" barrel and 26" hunting barrel
Rossi 12 Ga Coach Gun

Ruger M77 RSI 308 - tang safety model
Marlin 1895 Guide Gun 45-70

Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited 44 Magnum
Rossi M92 44 Magnum Trapper
paired with
Ruger Bisley Vaquero 44 Magnum (4" barrel)
S&W 629 Trail Boss 44 Magnum (3" barrel)

Kimber Custom Target 45ACP
Glock 30sf 45ACP
S&W 642 38 Special

Marlin 1897 Cowboy 22 rimfire
Browning 22 SA
Ruger Single Six 22/22Magnum with 9 1/2" barrel

1 gun, 5 guns, now 20 guns.
What's next?
A thread about having only a 100?

I'm pretty sure you ought to go back and read the relatively recent 5 gun thread again, and pay attention, because the one I remember did NOT ask people what guns they would choose if they could only have 5. That thread asked about which 5 guns EVERYBODY should have.

Big difference. It pays to read carefully.

Oh yes, BTW, I already addressed this point way back on the first part of the first page. Check post #10, among others.

Sometimes reading a thread before responding pays, too. ;)

I agree.

I don't see a difference. Odds are folks think the 5 guns they would choose are also the 5 guns they think everyone should own.

There's a serious lesson than can be learned from "playing this thread".

But for darn sure, the guys who think they already know all there is to know, won't get it, and IMO couldn't "get it" if it was served to them on a silver platter.

If you don't like it - DON'T play. What does one say about themselves by trying to spoil it for everyone else and making comments that uncannily resemble the noises coming from the south end of a northbound mule?

If my comment here is offensive, Moderator, please feel free to delete it, OTOH, some of the posters here-in need to grow up and "get over themselves" IMO. Being completely intolerant of the other guys point of view is at best unseemly. No doubt, the bit dog will scream the loudest.

Are you licensed to carry? If so, do you carry, and if so, how frequently?

Not much on .22, eh?

Which one would you use to teach/train/introduce a brand new shooter, possibly female and possibly a child, who is a bit apprehensive about doing so?

This may come as a surprise to most of you, but I've only ever shot a .22 once and long after I had already learned how to use my uncle's guns (a few milsurps, hunting rifles, a 1911, and a Single Action Army). It didn't impress me, I didn't have any fun with it, and I've never looked back.

Cost be damned! What good is saving money on ammo at the cost of my personal enjoyment?

As for the question at hand... If we're talking about my potential future children then I might buy them something, but that would be their gun, not mine. Hence, it has no place on MY list. As for an adult, probably the the Dan Wesson or GP100 loaded with .38 Specials and/or the AR-15.

I know I already posted in this thread, but I've had a change in philosophy since I did. My collection will only include 3-4 models of gun, ironically all S&W:

S&W M&P 9
S&W M&P 9C
S&W M&P 15
Maybe a shield.

Some of the M&Ps would be configured for carry, the others for HD (i.e. pretty much keep a light on 100% of the time, RDS) and they all would have the APEX lever-style (instead of stock hinged style) trigger installed, and the M&P 15 would have ambi controls and a rail, allowing me to put on a RDS, flashlight, and AFG.

Still the same purpose though - SD and range toys. Oh, I'd have multiple models of each, but just those models.

Old judge, you are new. These people are saying that bc about once a week there is a "if you could only have x#" thread.

Yep, pretty much it. Didn't mean to whiz in anyone's Cheerios. But tolerance goes both ways OJC. If you ask for an opinion on a internet forum you need accept the fact that all opinions are not going to be the same as yours. One should not complain about negative posts and then create one themselves. You tell me which of these two posts has more negativity and more closely fits the definition of trolling......

Why is that ironic?

Have you previously disliked S&W or something?
