Gutsy guy, telling a cop he had better protect him, or he would protect himself.

Illegal Immigration opponent creates stir at Cinco de Mayo celebration
http://kvoa.com/Global/story.asp?S=4870082

While hundreds gathered at Tucson's Kennedy Park to celebrate Cinco de Mayo festivities Saturday, Roy Warden, a man who opposes illegal immigration, stood outside of the event.

Tucson Police informed Warden that the event coordinator prohibited the protestor from entering the property, so he complied, moving his protest to the other side of the park.

A Tucson Police officer handed Warden a letter that said, in part, "I'm going to serve this letter to you. It's a trespass warning."

With that, Warden moved his protest away from the event, taking his message with him.

"You call them immigrants. They're not immigrants. They're lawbreakers. If we pushed into Mexico, what would you call us? Would you call us immigrants? No, you wouldn't."

Several in opposition stood by, hoping to discourage him from burning the Mexican Flag.

Home video shot by a witness captures a threat being made where Warden says, "You ready to die today, boy? You'd better be ready. Officer, get over here."

Seconds later an officer approaches the crowd speaking to Warden and says, "We're not going to be your personal bodyguard."

Warden replies, "Then I will take care of myself. I have a firearm on my hip and I will not be assaulted, officer."

Warden told News 4 he would conduct Mexican flag burning during the Cinco De Mayo celebrations but he did not, Warden said, "You see there, it's torn into pieces, you see that, you see that, in your face, torn to pieces stepped on the ground."

He then left, police and those in opposition watching silently, among them Wade Colwell who said, "If I can prevent a situation from escalating where maybe families could have been in danger or where an altercation could have broken out, I feel I've done my job because I'm willing to sacrifice that little bit of myself for my community."

Roy Warden does have a concealed weapons permit, and despite what was said Saturday police did not make any arrests during the incident, meanwhile Warden says he plans more flag burning in the near future.

Tucson Police say it is legal to burn a Mexican flag though it must be done inside of a grill, otherwise it is considered reckless burning.

While my 1st inclination is to say this guy is an idiot asking for it, he is doing nothing much more extreme than what the illegal immigrants are doing.

And

Atleast he is a legal US citizen.

Oh, and by the way, I think the cops treating him that way is rediculous given the 1st Amendment.

If an American cannot burn the flag of an invading country (that would be Mexico) on his own soil without protection from American LE, there are some serious problems with our system.
I'm sick of this crap...

When does Texas celebrate it's independence from Mexico? Might be a helleva day for a nationwide demonstration!!!!!!! I'm sick of the US giving in to the whole freaking third world!!!!!!

What a complete jerk. :fire: He's obviously trying to stir up trouble just because.
Does this guy go out bothering white people on St Patrick's Day? Burning Irish flags and such?

EDIT: "You ready to die today, boy?"

Sounds almost like Klan speak.

I don't see 20 million Irishmen demanding rights that aren't owed to them, marching down American streets waving their flag. Last I checked, there are about 30,000 illegal Irish folk in the US.
The Buzzard flag was made for burning.;)

You just missed it. San Jacinto Day is April 21.

On April 21, 1836, the Mexican army was defeated by the army of the provisional Republic of Texas.

Around 1830, Texans began protesting the abuse of power and ill treatment by the Mexican government.

In November 1835, after giving up hope for reform of the Mexican government, Texans formed a provisional government.

On October 2, 1835 the Texans defeated the Mexican army at Goliad, where the Mexicans had come to confiscate a small cannon. The Texans then defeated the Mexican army at Concepcion on October 28 and at San Antonio on December 10, and captured the Alamo on December 25.

On March 2, 1836 Texans declared their independence at Washington on the Brazos.

The President of Mexico, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, with 5,500 soldiers, marched north to quell the revolt. Texans were killed at Agua Dulce on March 2, and were annihilated at the Alamo on March 6. The Texans were then defeated in battles at Gonzales, Refugio and Victoria.

On March 27, 1836, 342 Texan prisoners were executed by the Mexican army at Goliad. The “Goliad Massacre” changed the perception of Santa Anna to a cruel one, and solidified the Texan people against him. The United States, and even France and England became sympathetic to the Texans, thus helping to promote their success.

Then on April 21, 1836, with cries of “Remember the Alamo!” and “Remember Goliad!”, the Texans defeated the Mexican army at San Jacinto in a battle lasting only 18 minutes.

One of the inscriptions on the San Jacinto Monument reads: "Measured by its results, San Jacinto was one of the decisive battles of the world. The freedom of Texas from Mexico won here led to annexation and to the Mexican War, resulting in the acquisition by the United States of the states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah, and parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Almost one-third of the present area of the American nation, nearly a million square miles of territory, changed sovereignty."

We'll need a reminder for next year on that one. Can we celebrate the end of the Mexican American war, that gave us so much captured territory?:neener:

What does a Cinco De Mayo celebration have to do with illegal immigration?

How does this guy know Hispanic people trying to enjoy themselves in the park are illegals? You know 1 in 7 people in this country are Hispanic. They arent all illegals.. FYI

This guy is just trying to rile people up so he can have an excuse to shoot some brown people. People like him are why I own guns.

There are lots of other groups of legal and illegal immigrants who don't demand things they're not due, either.

In S. Florida, there are a lot of Haitian refugees. Haiti is now a nearly completely deforested economic wasteland that's been through coups and purges and all sorts of nastiness. (You can literally SEE the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic on a satellite shot, one side is totally denuded of vegetation) And the Haitans are typically VERY hard workers, often holding down two or more jobs. They're just happy to be there, and be safer. I never saw a Haitian flag...and they also tended to speak not only English, but a precise, eloquent King's English, at that.

Well SS, people like the illegals are one of the reasons I own guns. Oh, and anyone that makes the decision to side up with *them* over American citizens.;)

Basically what I'm saying its there's a time and place for everything. Sure this guy is within his rights to go bother Mexicans while carrying his gun.. but is it really appropriate? People are trying to have a nice day out celebrating their culture and this guy has to come around trying to start trouble. Sure it's Mexican culture, and some people might not appreciate people celebrating Mexican culture in America.. but oh well.. let the people have their fun in the park.

If your family was out trying to enjoy a day in the park, wouldnt you be ticked if some anti-gun protesters came out bothering you.. trying to provoke you into a fight and asking you if you wanted to die..?

I see your point SS, I really do. However, I see that flag as the enemy flag. The people flying it in my country are supporting an invasion.
It's amazing how many houses I see with the Buzzard flag waving outside and no American flag.
The water is heating up at a rapid pace - we're growing tired of it.

Just wonder what would happen if we had a big 4th of July celebration in Mexico City.

I wonder, where are the mass celebrations of Bastille Day, Boxing Day and Victory Day, along with the waving of French Tri-Color, the Union Jack and the Russian Flag? Where are the thousands of illegals from countries other than Mexico DEMANDING amnesty from our laws simply for entering our home illegally, bankrupting our healthcare system, swamping our public education systems, fulling our prisons and trashing our open spaces?

I'd better stop now, least I get REALLY angry and say something that will get me banned from here. :fire:

Two things:
1) The individuals who are here illegally are not "illegal immigrants". They are "illegal aliens". Using the liberal terminology is like using anti-gun rights literature to advance our own cause.

2) Those demanding amnesty for invading the US have done nothing to demonstrate a loyalty to this country and its ideals.
If any other country had a good economy and porous borders, they would be there demanding the same thing. If the US economy sours, these individuals will abandon the US just like they abandoned their actual home countries. They will swear allegiance to any country because it means nothing to them. They have already broken countless laws so what is another false statement going to hurt?

Any illegal alien who wishes to become a US Citizen should be required to fully renouce their original country on record and in public. Further, they should be required to serve a three year stint in the US Armed Forces. My father enlisted and fought in Vietnam which earned him the right to become a citizen of the US. The illegal aliens should be required to earn their citizenship as well.

A park open to the public

I didn't think entering a public park constitutes trespassing.

Roy Warden had every right to protest whatever he wants to. He could of done it a little better but in the end he has every right to do so. Now the illegals, I don't think they have a right to crap even if they are in this country. Come to Americal legally and I'll welcome you with open arms. Sneak across the border, suck the system dry and take advantage of our earned freedoms and I'll help kick your can back over the border.

As for the whole flag burning deal, I won't burn any countries flag. I might not respect the government or its way of doing things but to destroy their flag in a disrespectful way is not something I'm going to do.

I don't know how smart he is, but he got courage to confront them. About 5 mayo as soon the congress release any approach about new law, Mexico will lax the frontier.

Sounds like he's a bit of a jerk.

But hey, it's not illegal to be a jerk, nor should it be. There were a lot more jerks at the May 1st marches.

Personally, I think that Bastille Day is as good a reason to drink as any. But I didn't celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year, despite its ordinarily being a big deal here in San Diego -- a reason to drink, I mean; nobody even knows what happened on May 5th, but it's conveniently placed between Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day on the one hand, and Memorial Day and July 4th on the other. I didn't see any Mexican flags out, either. I have seen a few more American flags flying lately, though.

things in mexico must be really bad to make a big deal of defeating the french

To be fair, they were Napolean's boys - not exactly pushovers. On the other hand, the kill ratio was overwhelmingly in favor of the French.
