Another thread with a hopefully less dire and more amusing twist on dealing with the crazy firearms/ammunition market we are living in.

I am committed to not buying another firearm, any ammo, and no reloading supplies till the calendar reads 2022. I am going to use what guns I have with what ammo and reloading supplies I have on hand. If I run out of ammo and reloading components for a particular caliber it will be shelved till 2022.

I make only two exception, I will still be buying 22LR match grade ammo (I have plenty of plinking 22LR ammo) for my NRL22 matches. And if an unshaved Webley Mark IV were to cross my path in shootable condition and at a price I can stomach for the condition I would buy it.

This seems like the best response to the current conditions. Time to ignore the crazy prices and equally crazy reactions to them and focus on having fun shooting what I have. I am fortunate that I think I bought enough during the good times that I can do this fairly easily. I might only be shooing 40S&W, 30 RAR and 28 gauge by the end of the year but I am pretty sure I can make it while still carrying, competing, plinking and hunting what and when I want.

Anyone else thinking along these lines?

So i dunno if its just out here but im not seeing anything ridiculously priced. Ive paid way less than MSRP for every gun ive bought, ammo is about 2 bucks a box more expensive now, tho 9s and 556 are often unavailable.
Reloading is the same price.

Im done buying stuff as well tho, its getting harder and harder to find stuff i want, that wong get me murdered by my wife........

For the last 18 months, most of what I have been buying has been ammo and black powder stuff. Ammo was bought up until March simply because I figured that an election year would see a run. That is over now for the forseeable. Black powder stuff still seems to be available. I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my first cap and ball revolver. If I see stuff at the right price I will jump on it, but I doubt that will happen and I won't really be looking. Will just be hunting and playing with the toys I already have. That is hardly a bad thing.

I am glad to see you have at least a few exceptions to your proclamation. The world is in such a weird state right now that I hate to make any promises to myself that could easily be broken. Besides I think as the year roles on there could be opportunity to buy. So I don't want to rule it out. I think I could last most of the year but why torture myself. Oh yeah and I just bought a new AK47 on Friday.

Considering the climate (I don't mean weather) any reasonable purchase that comes my way is worthy of consideration. Especially ammo.
This is my position. I actually bought a few guns lately, all new, all way under MSRP.

Ammo is the same. I have plenty to get me through but if I come across good deals I’ll be a buyer.

I just purchased a firearm a couple of weeks ago and paid ~$50 over pre-bandemic pricing, but still under MSRP. I will likely not make another purchase if the price is more than that...I can wait several years if need be. I don't need ammo, but will continue to scour the web for reloading components to keep my supply well-stocked; I don't mind a long wait, but won't pay ridiculously inflated prices.

No solid plans for any more guns. I'm downsizing. But you never know what the future may bring. As for ammo, powder, reloading components and things like that I learned my lesson years ago. Comes in handy to be prepared. This year I helped out some friends who couldn't get shotgun slugs.

The last gun I bought was January of this year. The last gun I built was this spring so I have sort already started this earlier this year. Since April the only thing I have bought has been 22LR and primers.

I have seen similar, the local prices are not horrible but the selection is, I bought 555 packs of Win 22LR for $25 back just a couple weeks ago. Academy had 525rd Remington Gold Bullet for $30 this weekend, but that was literally the only rifle or pistol ammo that store had, along with some shotgun ammo. The local Cabelas ammo section is one double sided isle, where a year ago with was three double side isles. I was in this weekend looking for 410 for a friend and they must have put a bunch of pistol ammo out cause the ammo section was almost rude as people tried to get there limit of 5-boxes. I started ignoring the internet prices months ago.

It is getting hard to find stuff I want. The only thing that jumps to mind is the Webley Mark VI mentioned up thread.

I would be lying if I said no spousal influences were involved. She has indulge my hobby well over the years and I need to get her a new kitchen soon.

NRL22 competition is new to me and though I have a good gun for the matches my supply of good 22LR ammo for it is lacking so I will buy what I can when I can of the higher end 22LR to keep it feed. That will be most of my competition next year though I would like to shoot a few USPSA matches if I can find the time.

Thank you for allowing us newbies to buy guns in 2021 and having a better shot at product inventory :D

You are most welcome! ;) Hopefully you can find some deals in this crazy market!

Turners in So. Cal is selling Fiocchi 115gr and 124gr 9mm for $25.99 with a 4 box limit. Was in stock when I called on Friday. What I see online is that the brass case is at $30+ with typical at $35.

The local Cabelas has CCI Blazer aluminum 9mm for $18.99/50. And I watched it fly rudely off the shelves this weekend.

But then again I don't own a 9mm... :)

I have more firearms than I need or have time to shoot regularly and I'm well stocked on components. I'm not looking for anything, and I'm sensitive to current market conditions. I'm more likely to do some downsizing this coming year. But that does not mean I won't take advantage of an opportunity should one present itself.

My time this coming year is to get my reloading room very well organized and inventoried. I have a feeling I’m well stocked until 2022.

I have been thinking along the same lines. I have several boxes of hunting ammunition- in reality, enough to keep me hunting deer, turkeys, and hogs for the foreseeable future. I have cut my training ammo consumption by about 75%. I still go to gun shows, but more to kill time and buy the occasional nick-nack than anything else. I may pick up a Ruger American ranch in 7.62 x 39, though. It doesn't look like things have gone crazy with rifles of that type, and I have plenty of food for it that I will probably never use otherwise.

I just end a 12 year (!) gun buying moratorium by getting a Weatherby Mark XXII and if something good comes along, I see a bargain, or have to help someone out.....

I have no plans to buy anymore guns thanks to a medical bill need to sell one or two . I have plenty of FMJ ammo that will be fired sparingly in my EDC 9mm Shield and 686 snub. Last ammo bought was Blazer .38spl $30 and brick of CCI .22L $50
