"Predicting future behavior by past behavior"
I understand your point, and it is a worthy point of view. But they are probably predicting future election loss by past election loss.Back then the time and lack of alternative media was right for them (the early 90's) not so much now.
Now specially given the reports of mass buying since the election, plus internet everywhere now giving the media less stranglehold on "truth",and activism from firearm owners they may have woken up to the fact that gun ownership including EBR's are hugely popular now as compared to the 90's and that even liberal leaning Democrats enjoy firearms also.
All current evidence points that while they at first thought that their old ways would still be popular thus stating their intentions,it seems now they are back tracking or at least trying to stay away from issues overall that will anger the many gun owners of America.
Obama, the attorney general and Hillary Clinton can make all the side comments they want but there are many Democrats not ready to seal their political doom by joing the bandwagon of gun control.
Take it for what it is right now that guns are not a forefront issue for the Dems overall, and let this hysteria die down some, when they do bring real legislation up and it looks like it will pass then we can start being in real hysteria.
So far gun owners and supporters are winning...
