Interesting old Press I saw for sale.

I grew up ordering “ stuff “ thru Herters. Their biggest problem was they drop-shipped almost everything since they had very little product in “their” warehousees. Consequently, there was usually a long wait and orders dribbled in
( randomly &extremely late ! ) this drove me bonkers!! To their credit however, their presses were pretty bomb-proof.

I still have three items from them I bought back in the early '60's..........powder scale, an in press lube sizer and a coffee grinder, the latter of which came with George Herters 'best in the world coffee mix'. Roughest stuff I have ever tried......reminded me of the line from Brian Keith's mountain man character about their smoking mix tasting like buffalo ****.............to which he replied 'it is'!

I still have a few Herter's things. I still use the beam scale that Grandpa bought back in the 60's and I still have a knife. I wasn't real impressed with their press or dies and the press got upgraded to a Rockchucker and the dies to RCBS or Redding. I think Redding made the scale. It was always entertaining to read through their catalog! :)

View attachment 1158712 View attachment 1158713 I was perusing the shop in Grand Island NE formerly known as “Swedes” on Saturday. (It now also serves as Hornadys “outlet store”) They had this cool old Herters press in there.
I that GI Pawn?
When I was doing heavy haul I would stop there on occasion when Hornady stopped selling their seconds at the factory.
I sure miss the prices I got on those seconds.
GI Pawn seemed to have a very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Since I no longer drive semi those sojourns into the various states gun stores are no more.
Now it's mail order.
