i carry a 6" gerber fixed blade in sheath on belt everyday use it for everything from opening boxes to cutting steak and peeling spuds i have found over the years that it tends to raise eyebrows from time to time but it also eliminates alot of unnecessary conversations and confrontations. i live in Vegas and sometimes just walking down street can be an adventure. it does help keep the street people and pan handlers at bay. I would have no qualms about using it as a close quarters weapon if the need arises.

people make the funniest gurgling noise when stabbed in throat don't ya think :scrutiny:

I find that people who are not of the sheepdog mindset think of a pocket knife or EDC knife- even a Swiss Army Knife - as a weapon first and foremost.

Tool

My knife is a tool, the same as a firearm. If the job at hand requires physical harm to someone, it's still a tool for doing that particular job.

In public I carry a Spyderco Gunting in a custom belt sheath that I never use for utility purposes, and I also usually carry a small folding knife for utility work - either an SAK or a Spyderco Kopa. I never forget my Gunting, but occasionally I forget to carry the small folder, which is OK because I have a backup small folder in every briefcase, messenger bag and backpack that I use, plus a couple in my desk at work.

I answered tool, but if needed I'd use it as a weapon, heck, I'd use my briefcase and anyuthing else I could grap to use.

I carry it as a tool. My Case Mini-Trapper would pass this test. My BK-11, maybe not.
