Ithaca 37 R Question

Does anyone have any information regarding the serial numbers of pre-war Ithaca 37R's.

I have the opportunity to purchase an Ithaca 37R with a serial number of 33073.

How do you tell if an Ithaca 37 is a first year?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

This page lists serial number ranges by year for all ithaca models.

To answer a question I had previously, Old style (pre855,000) barrels cannot be made to interchange with new style barrels, and vice-versa, as the threads are different. Ithaca (the new Ithaca) will put an adapter in your old style receiver for about $150 so it will take new barrels, but then it will no longer accept its original barrel. It wasn't clear whether that price included a new barrel.

I think I'm going to send my original barrel off to be threaded for screw in chokes.

TO: DOC HOLLIDAY

A few posts back somebody posted a s/n chart, your 20 ga. is a '79 according to that info.

By the way, if any of you more knowledgeable members see this... I put up a question that may have been put it in the wrong place for an answer.
Why are 1975 model serial numbers prefixed with 38 (like mine) then go back to 37 the year after? And what is the significance of this? Thanks and sorry if I'm mis-using the thread.

12 ga M87 barrel

I am looking at buying an M87 which, my understanding, is an M37 produced in the 80s
It is is fairly good shape, needs to be oiled, and the barrel needs to be re-blued
it is equipped with a flash arrestor, which i have never seen on a shotgun, i was curious if anyone had any thoughts on them
More importantly however, the barrel has a slight upward curve. It is rather gradual, and seems to be constant throughout the entire barrel, suggesting it was manufactured that way, rather than damaged
Does anyone know for certain whether or not this barrel is damaged?

Additionally, they want 120 bucks for it, might this be worth buying anyway, if i could locate a straight barrel, especially if i could talk them down?

I appreciate the help

Hello all,
I have a Model 37, Featherlight ,16 gage 28 inch barrel sweetie, that my dad gave a long time ago. the SN# is 869884 I was curious about the year of manufacture, and if the stocks are the same on the current production models this gun fits me better than any of my winchesters, and I shoot much better with it.

To Patnconway and coldshot

Patnconway: any barrel that looks curved better be a paintball gun. I would steer clear. I'm no expert but I've been around all kinds of firearms for 30 years and no barrel should have a curve. This Thread is 2 years old and there is tons of information, please feel free to start at the top and read down. The Ithaca education is at your mouse button.

Coldshot: as previously mentioned a s/n chart was posted a few pages back where you can age your shoot'n iron, have a look. See post dated 11-12-08 from member "Dos"
