Ithaca 37 featherlight question

Looking for serial number. Only number I can find is on the side of the receiver.

It is 371183171 according to other posts all s/n are 5 or 6 digit. I looked on the barrel and on the bottom of the receiver, just behind where the barrel goes in. Nothing there.

Also, it is in excellent condition. Can anyone tell me what it's approximate resale value is?

Are the older guns of 'better' quality for fit or finish than the newer guns? I believe Ithaca went bk and then re-organized, not sure when or how many times, but often such events affect product quality.

e.g. pre 855,000 v. post 855,000?

pre xxxxxxx v 37xxxxxx

Ringtail forearm v. new style forearm? Thanks,

etc.

All good guns with the late 70s through the intro of the model 87 being a little lax in the fit, finish and quality control areas....model 87s and King Ferry made 37s were still made on the older machines so needed some extra hand fitting and polishing to be top notch and they fell short on this from time to time but they had a little better QC than the late 70s through mid 80s guns....the new Ohio made guns are NOW being made on new CNC machines with tighter tolerances, and better fit and finish because of it...these new 37s are better made then any made in the last 30 years...

Model 37 info!

Hello everyone, long time lurking in the shadows, first time posting! I bought a gorgeous Model 37 featherlight-20 gauge at an auction this last Saturday for $200! It looks like it is virtually unfired. The serial # is 4440xx on both reciever and barrel. what year was it manufactured, and approximate worth. Thanks for your time and effort in advance!

Hello all, been a member for a while however I just purchased my first Ithaca. It's a mod 37 20ga with 28". I paid $300. for it and it's in good condition. I was looking for a little help though. It does not have a bead front sight. It's a short, redish colored plastic tube. Was this added after production? If so, what is the factory front sight.
Also, from reading earlier posts, it looks like a 1957 build. 671339-2
Love this forum and Black Talon, thanks for offering up soo much info to those of us who need it.

It sounds like the short, reddish colored plastic tube might be a fiber-optic sight. If it's translucent, then that's probably what it is. Truglo invented fiber-optic sights, and started out as a company in 1993, at which point it was for archery bows--long story short, those sights aren't even close to stock.

fancy 37 ques.

Hi folks, I'm curious if anyone here can confirm that the engraving on my 37 #782xxx-4 (1960-'61?) was not done at the factory. hard to see but the traditional "dog & ducks" is in gold. I know the supposed history of the gun but you know how stories go sometimes.................Thanks:)

Ithaca DID offer what they called the "Raybar" front bead as a factory set-up, so this is probably the way your shotgun came from the factory; they were threaded in with standard sizes, so it should be easy to change if it bothers you.

Hehe,,, uh, 5279. It's got more rust on it than Hillary Clinton's chastity belt. Going to bead-blast, parkerize, and gun-Kote it.

I just bought a Ithica model 37 12 g. 20" barrel, nickel plated with black synthetic, no engraving. It states 2 3/4 or 3.made in NY. # M3700105**
I cannot find this model any where and have no idea if it's a Marine, Military or what. It is is excellent condition.

"M" stands for "Model" in this case. Made in 1998 or 1999, I believe, shortly after they reset the model name to M37. Was the model 87 prior to that. No cange in the gun, only some hair-brained idea to change the model number.

Black Talon, I'd just like to say I'm seriously impressed with your dedication to this cause.

Nicely done mate.

Keep up the good work, for relatively little reward.
