USMCPMI:

Gun is from 1956 so I think the barrels do not interchange.

I want to know if cutting the barrel would leave me with a nice gun or would I just be messing up a classic.

Thanks anyways.

Bushmaster... As far as I know, the difference came about in a longer(or shorter) mag tube. I believe I've had both guns in the past as I have had to change the tube to use the shorter barrel from one gun to the other. I believe if you have the barrel, tube spring and follower, it should fit either older or newer action. (Someone around here should know for sure.)

Model 37 info request

New Member just inherited 30" Model 37.
Serial Number 12695XX would like to know year made.

Barrels available from Ithaca are 24" and 28".
Would like to put 20" barrel to make this a HD gun.
Any thoughts as to viability and where to obtain barrel?

Thanks

Make sure you are reading your serial number from front edge of receiver. Sometimes reading serial number from the barrel results in number errors, as their is an extra digit there for the choke style.

Thanks for the detailed info. There was a "37" before the numbers but I saw that others eliminated them so I did too. That would put the gun at about 1972 which is about right.

The 30" barrel is a little long for a HD weapon. Does anyone make a 20" or know (approximately) what it would cost to reduce this to 20"?

Thanks again for the info.

You can get a new barrel from Itahca. And since yours is a '72 model it should interchange with no headspace problem. Ithaca is back in business again. A simple Google for Ithaca Gun Company will find them. I was on their sight the other day. I think you might have to call them.

You can also cut the barrel down yourself if you are so inclined, but will have to deal with a new front sight. Not really necessary for HD purposes though.

Newbie with a Ithaca 37 question?

Hello,

I have an Ithaca model 37 12 gauge that I would like to get more information. from the charts provided it appears that it was made in 1947. It is a 27.5" from the mag. to the end of the barrel. It has a choke on the end of the barrel. The gun is in beautiful condition.

Can someone please let me know if the date that I came up with is correct and where I can get a "slug" barrel from?

Thanks for the help,

The gun was a gift from my parents when I turned 16 for Christmas.

Take care,

Ryan

I think if it is below serial number 800,000 the barrels can't be swapped out easily. Depending on how much a gunsmith would charge, you might be better off getting a separate slug gun.

i have model 37 feather light with a serial # 371201931 and was wondering what the year of this is. also i wanted to redo the wood but was unsure what finish it has on it, any help would be great

The 'ringed forend' has a special nickname... What was it? Cornshucker? Scrub board? Tootsie Roll? Ribbed Pleasure? Does anyone remember the nickname?

Dads old guns

Hi guys,

Just found this lovely website and joined up immediately. Recently my fathers farm was broke into and the F*&$%^# bad guys got away with some good old guns. On the plus side they missed a few. I now have the ones not taken in my safe and have been trying to track down some info on them.

I have 2 Ithaca mod 37's one in 12ga w/mod choke, and one in 20ga.

Serial # for the 12 is located on the bbl 92264
Serial # for the 20 is on the receiver 371427429

Dad said he bought the 12ga in Texas in the 50's & couldnt remember about the 20ga.
The 12ga is what we used on the farm growing up and is a little worn but the receiver still has the etching of the Dog & fowl. The 20ga is like new, rarely fired.

What is the date of manufacture for these shotguns and what would be a current value?

Any and all help would be appreciated..thanks in advance! :)

I just inherited an Itica deerslayer, however it is stamped police model on the receiver, haven;t looked at it much seems to be an 18-20" bbl with sights.
Blueing could use a little work but action is flawless. I was wondering about a 28" bird barrel ? I'll post the serial # when I get home. Thanks in advance ! Any info on this being a police model ? What does this mean ?

We just purchased an Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight 12GA 2 3/4 chamber shotgun with serial number 490320 -2. I have so far found that the -2 means modified choke, but can someone tell me #1 what year it was most likely made, and #2 what ammo we should use? Obviously 12ga, but is there anything special we should know about the requirements?
