I've seen some cringe worthy acts at the range but this is.....

“Okay Class. Thank you all for coming and paying up front. I say that because we do this for money and since we know you’re all gonna go for this we want to make sure we are paid ahead of time. Now first things first. We want to simulate the kinds of people that you all will encounter when going into a gun fight and we know that most bad guys are “high” so to see what it’s like to get into the heads of these bad guys we want you all to spend some time in the Dope Tent. Yeah it’s Smokey but it ain’t bad...me and Joe spent all morning in there and that is where we came up with idea for today’s drills so everyone get up and get into the Dope Tent and we’ll be back in 20 minutes to get you so we can have some fun...”

:eek::confused::uhoh::neener:

We did some exercises in the military that some would deem "cringeworthy". Of course, these exercises were performed in full protective gear, were much more controlled, took place at a point in the 2 month long course after everyone had proven their capabilities, judgement, situational awareness, and reliability, and directly supported the NEXT level of training that we were progressing towards. I don't believe any of that is present here.

Would some nationally-known instructors (recognized by those nit-wits) please quickly drive over there and explain that the training isn't worth the risks?

Take an active duty or retired special operations fighter to help emphasize the point. Maybe a Marine, Green Beret, Ranger or SEAL can get their attention, and persuade them.

Tell a lawyer associated with the range's owner.
That could work even faster.

I watched the video twice and have this comment. In regards to the obvious risk vs reward showcased here, Im asking myself what great benifit is having someone fire a gun behind you as you pace down the line? Ive seen a hardcore tactical video, probably the same others have spoke of, that could be of great use in a self defense situation. But this to me offers nothing more than a when I concentrate on my trigger pull and I hear the guy in the lane next to me blast off his hand cannon.

Still not the dumbest I’ve seen. I once went to a range in the national forest and it was real windy, a guy had his buddy down range holding the bottom of his target down while he sighted in his scope.

I don't need to experience bullets passing by my ear from behind. That's the dumbest excuse for a firearms instructor.......

Reminded me of this training exercise from Indonesia... which is apparently something they do regularly...

I still wonder if the video in the OP was run using blanks. Nobody is THAT stupid!

The Russian and Indonesian videos are supposedly special forces, which does not mean that you can't be stupid, but I just can't imagine that a range would train us "average Joes" in that way with live ammo.

Wow!

An AD at 3:47 and looks/sounds like another at 4:47

The human no shoots clank when they walk or have to let the air in and out of their heads when changing altitude

This is a reminder, when shopping for a class, politely ask for the credentials and experience of any of your potential instructors.

“Train like you fight”? I’ve never been in the military but I always assumed soldiers were trained NOT to walk directly in front of their squad when they are firing...

Years ago in Marine Boot Camp when in infantry training there was a infiltration course where there was live machine gun fire going overhead. You could see the holes dug into the hill where the machine gun fire impacted. Yes there were Drill Instructors standing on the course too.

Difference is, I trust the Marines enough to jump out of an airplane with them. And that having machine gun support over your head, is likely a real tactic.

In fact ,they're responsible for my scuba addiction.

I don't think comparing what any armed forces does is justified.

This is Joe blow public with a couple dollars in their pockets!

How many of you have gone to an indoor range and looked up? How many holes can you count in the ceiling, baffling, light fixtures, etc. etc.?????????

Hey mods, maybe you might want to start a new subforum labeled the Hall of Shame for posting such Public Service Announcement worthy materials. Good educational service to the shooting community could be had by a concentrated zone of bad practices along the lines of the Catherine Aird quote , "If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning."

"Hall of shame" would be an epic foru.......

Hhhhnnnnnngggg.....
Borrowed the idea from the Georgia Outdoor News which has a long running column of misbehaving hunters facing charges for violating hunting laws.

I still can't by the fact that this entire drill they just did, they could have done "cold".

Walk around and fold up your gun when moving or blocked. It's an empty pistol, blue pistol, drill. LOLz.

To voluntarily participate in a "exercise" like this is beyond my comprehension.

Agreed.

But then let's stop and think that:
  • Somebody the participants regarded as being in a position of authority thought this up.
  • That authority then explained this "exercise" to the participants.
  • While some might have withdrawn before what we see on the video, enough of the participants thought this was a good idea that they started.
  • And even after making a circuit hearing the bullets fired by other minimally trained participants whizzing by their heads, they continued.
It seems likely this is an example of peer pressure at work. Even people who didn't perceive the danger before the first shots were fired had to become acutely aware of it as the "exercise" continued, yet they continued.

I agree with this, the ones that don’t get shot, won’t get rattled by just about anything and will certainly have the “trust your brothers” part nailed down.
