Some of you know Jack's story, some of you don't, but I wanted to share these pics with you and a short explanation for those of you who don't know the story. Jack has a form of MS called Myotonic Dystrophy, he was not expected to live past early childhood, but he neglected to follow the doctors prognosis of death. He was told at age seven he would never walk, to which he told the doctor he would. He does today on level ground and with help on the rough stuff. About 6yrs ago at the age of 16 he told his dad he wanted to hunt, he hunted for four years and never shot at anything. We invited him to Texas two years ago this coming Spring and he bagged his first hog. He returned last spring and bagged another. He had never killed a deer and really wanted to do so. He finally got his wish this evening. He is normally limited to shots of no more than 50yds, tonight he stretched the limit a bit and harvested this buck at 60yds, one shot kill, deer never took a step, just straight down. I was informed this deer is going on the wall, right next to his hog head from 2yrs ago.

Pretty special night here in Texas.

Steve

Steve ... not being sure what to read in the thread .... I am now touched and overjoyed for Jack, and those around him.

I far to frequently forget to count my blessings .. my (still) functioning arms and legs ... albeit with aches!! And i can walk and do most things ... just a bit slower.

Say Hi to Jack from us here at THR .. and I hope very much he will have many more opportunities to repeat this great event.

Kudos.

:)

Quite forgot to add .. thx too for the GREAT pic!!:)

That's soooo awesome :)

Doctors get the middle finger from me for trying to saddle people with that death count down bullcrap.

Cheers to a guy that lives life on his own time. Its his world tonight......we're just living in it :D

Good shooting Jack!

What kind of rifle did he use? (Can't tell from the pic.)

Your first deer is an important step in the life of a hunter. Congrats to all involved in taking young Jack out in the field and sharing your knowledge and experience with a new hunter.

You did good Steve.

Dr. Rob,

His dad built it, it is a Turkish mauser action with a Swedish Mauser barrel, weighted to lessen recoil, in 6.5x55 shooting a handloaded 140 gr hornady SP at 2300fps. Pretty sweet shooting little rig for him.

We didn't do much just got him permission to hunt an area that doesn't get much pressure, and where they wanted rid of some deer. We had an any spike is ok rule since most of the 1.5yr old are sporting 6-10pt racks.

Great job Jack. One can never forget the first one they get. Once you get the first one the others will come alot easier.

Jacks biggest hog ever... 175lb live weight sow, shot this evening, last night was a bust, saw a big hog but she never came out into the open enough for Jack to see her.

Shot tonight was 25yds, behind the shoulder angling in with a 140gr hornady in 6.5x55 at 2300fps. He dropped her in her tracks but she regained her feet and tried to make the whitebrush, I stuck two more in her so we didn't have to try to track her. Good thing to, she was so fat it had sealed the entrance hole off and she didn't bleed a drop. His placement was perfect, if he was strong enough to shoot a slug gun she would have never moved an inch with that shot. :D

I'm so happy for him I am still pumped and grinnin.
