Here is an unusual rifle that I came upon about 7-8 years ago. I had it for 3 years or more before I found out what it was. I put this picture in another thread but I did not want to get things off topic so I started this new thread. I know there are some very sharp folks here so someone will most likely ID it. Have fun!

Hints

There were few of these made, less than 100. This one was built in 1948 and once I found out what is was, I didn't shoot it very often because I was afraid of breaking something. But here is a target from last year when I took it out to see how it groups. This was from 50 yards with a 60+ year old rifle.

Remington 37

Someone was thinking model 37. This does have some features the same as a model 37 but it is something more unusual.

Benny Sunderhaus

Benny had a shop in Ohio and made about 85 rifles with the last one being made in the 1950s. It appears that at least 3 were shot by National Champions at Camp Perry. This one is number 58 and Benny was one of the few gunsmiths that Eric Johnson would sell his barrels to. Johnson believed if the barrel was not chambered correctly, it would reflect on him so he was very selective about selling barrels alone. Eric Johnson normally set up the rifles himself. The trigger was way ahead of its time and could be adjusted by the shooter by just moving a thumb wheel. I had the rifle for years and thought it was just a copy of a 37 Remington but some credit Benny of giving Remington the idea for the 37. If any of you have any information about Benny or his rifles, I would love to hear about it. Thanks all.

When I first saw the rifle I thought it was a 37, the first picture was not clear enough for me to discern the long overhang on the rear of the receiver, it just looked like the rear sight to me. I'm happy to learn that that rifle is related to the 37, at least I'm not totally crazy. :)

Here are a couple photos of a Remington Model 37 pics for comparison.
