I heard reports that the plant at Lake City will stop civilian sales because of military demand.

If things continue to heat up in the Middle East, do you think ammo supply in the US will dry up? Is anyone stocking up now while stuff is available?

Remember Lake City is unique as far as ammunition plants go, it is owned by the government and run by contractors. The goverment offer contracts out to commercial companies to run the plant for them. It started with Remington (RIP) running the plant and then ATK (in its various forms) ran if for awhile and now Olin/Winchester is running it. Obviously government demand/contracts gets priority.

The old adage "never let a crisis go to waste" applies here. The anti-2A/anti-American crew is more than happy to use foreign wars as a reason to restrict domestic ammo supplies.

Yes, and in America government was supposed to be "by the people" as well. I can see giving the regular army ammo before the militia if there is a real war on, but to ship all the ammo to foreign wars that don't concern us to keep it out of the hands of the American people is disgusting. But if they can get away with it that is exactly what will happen.

Stocked up a few years ago when supplies were good. When I hit the range I buy from the shop for the day's shooting so still fairly stocked up, anywhere from 1000 to 2000 for sidearms and long guns, except for a couple hundred for the .380 wife has.
Yeah I know I'm a piker compared to some of you folks 😉

When big events happen, be they another battle in the land of never-ending conflict or some loser blows his cork and shoots up a bowling alley, there will be folks running to the gun store and spending next months rent money on ammo.

Happens. Every. Time. 😞

Hopefully things settle again soon and the hoopla quiets down.

Stay safe.

Besides Lake City/Winchester cancelling consumer contracts don't forget Vista sold their ammo companies to a Czech based company that is a major military supplier. Thats CCI, Federal, Remington, Hevi Shot, and Speer. So who knows what the future of ammo supply will be in the US. Especially whats going on over seas.

well THEN what happens to it ? They improve their shooting skills ? They try to sell for profit or barter with it ? They sit on it until the kids inherit it ? They are ready to fight as in Red Dawn scenarios :) ( the best !) , or they find a bump stock and a duplex trigger system to squirt it into the dirt with a fine big noise to scare away the devils ?

Man did we see a lot of that in Ca. 😩

I remember one store with two boxes of .17 Super Mag and a couple of boxes of steel birdshot shotgun shells on the shelf, that’s it. The store was so barren I felt like I was back in Havana.

Stay safe.
And then you had to pay for a background check, now you are taxed triple and back ground checks , can only get it for what you have registered with the CADOJ as far as pistol ammo !!!

The background check is in effect, the tax goes into effect Jan 1, 2024. There isn’t a registered pistol/ammo purchase requirement that I am aware of. (But who knows what 2024 will bring 😩)

Stay safe.

Dunno. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe most folks sit on it, some gouge-price it for sale and the others shoot it?

Stay safe.

UuUu3 is putting a very inconsiderate damper on our attempts to prepare for SeeUu2.
