Sorry, I am just getting into reloading rifle ammo after reloading shotgun and pistol ammo for a long time.

I have always been told one of the primary differences between rifle and handgun reloading was the need to use lube and the need to trim cases.

I have a .270 Win M70 supergrade I will be reloading for.

I have my Lee reloading press that I will be using and have bought these dies:

I am getting confused by what I am reading. Some say no lube required, while others say they still have to lube the cases.

Anyone used these before able to shed some light on my confusion. Specifically :

270 Wincher Ultimate Rifle 4-Die Set. Choose this die set for maximum versatility. The set features a full length-resizing die to return brass to factory new dimensions, perfect for reloading brass fired in other guns. The Collet Neck sizing die is used on your fire formed brass giving you best possible accuracy. No case lube required and cases last almost forever. The Easy Adjust Dead Length Bullet seating die foolproof the bullet seating adjustment and assures perfect seating depth every time. The Factory Crimp die provides a secure crimp on bullets with or without a crimp groove. In most cases it helps accuracy by providing a uniform higher start pressure and gives the finished cartridge Factory like accuracy and dependability. The set is complete, with shell holder, powder measure and famous Lee load data featuring all common brands of powder organized in a easy to read logical format. download product instructions.

That refers to the Collet Neck Sizing die, NOT the full length sizing die. You definitely, no questions asked, must use case lube with the full length sizing die.

Higgite has the correct answer for ya.

The above is how it should have been highlighted in your OP.

I've that set for 243 & 30/30, collet sizer didn't work for either. FL works fine and the FCD is fantastic.

Only the neck sizing die does not need lube when neck sizing. Personally I lube the neck outside and inside, just makes things go in and out easier.

Full length sizing , with the full length sizing die requires lubrication or you will get a stuck case. You don't want a stuck case....trust me on this.

You have to read the directions carefully and when in doubt, ask questions.
Load safe,
Gary

You don't need lube with the Lee collet die set. It is capable of loading some very good ammo. Cases don't last forever no matter what sizing method is used, but neck sizing often gets better case life than FL sizing. Eventually the cases will get hard to chamber though, and will need some sizing, FL being the best way to get them back to fitting your chamber.

The accuracy debate is a whole nother question, a road I am certain the members would go down with you if you were interested.

Many match winners and record setters have got 50 to 100 reloads or more per case properly full length sizing them. Naysayers to that need to do a little research.

If you have the stuff to do so precisely, measure case neck runout on both types of resized fired cases. You'll see that proper full length sized ones center the bullet more inline with the bore axis than neck sized ones do. Neck only sizing dies don't hold the case shoulder and body in line with the case neck during the sizing operation. Cases head spacing on their shoulder center their shoulder in the chamber shoulder when fired; often before they're fired. The case body forward of its pressure ring when the primer fires, doesn't touch the chamber body at all.

Not interested in an accuracy debate. I just shoot and reload for phone, outside of the annual deer and occasional hog.
