I have a ULA Model 20 in 7x57. It is currently on route back to NULA because the bolt handle separated from the bolt, leaving a live round in the chamber. When I got home I managed to rotate the bolt with needle nose pliers to remove the cartridge.
The magazine is too short to function with some factory cartridges. Federal Premium and Privi Partizan will jam up in the magazine unless the bullets are seated deeper. Federal Classic cartridges function okay. When the rifle was new I asked Melvin for a cartridge OAL specification and was told "what ever length functions reliably". I once again requested a maximum cartridge OAL specification in the letter that I sent with the rifle for repair.

Weatherby actions are solid, dependable, and tight. I have a full sized Mark V in 7mm Wby mag. It is a great rifle. I would lean toward the Weatherby, if it seems to fit you.

Remington LTR, or that Ruger 77 compact.

I don't know about the Ruger 77, but I own a Remington LTR. It's a fantastic rifle, but one thing it isn't is "really light". Although the LTR does stand for "Light Tactical Rifle", it's only light when you compare it to other heavy barrelled precision rifles. Compared to light hunting rifles it's a tank.

Goodkat,
If money is no object..... the world is your oyster. How about a nesika action mated onto a pacnor barrel of about 20 inches in a nice slim profile. with a custom made aluminum bedded synthetic stock with model 700 type bottom metal and a good trigger. mmmm those actions are almost sensual.........
