Long Range Rifle/Scope/PRS question(s)

My middle son was quite the pistolero in his teenage years, still is. We would go shoot at matches, and people would really get peeved when a 13 year old boy beat them at a stage. It didn't happen often but when it did, it was pretty amusing to see.
 
Forgive the hard left turn, but is anyone else here in Oklahoma this wknd?

Ninnekah, at Fouled Bore Precision. PRS Pro Series match called “Silent Night.” We haven’t done a night match here since covid started, so it’s amazing to be back at it. Suppressor-only match also, so no ear pro, just the sound of polite freedom.

The wind was much higher last night than expected for a night match, and the tricky headwind over the ridge and down the valley we’re shooting across made for interesting and frustrating stages. I shot frustratingly consistently last night, made corrections and adjustments among the highest level I ever do, but without the visible wind indicators on the field, I’ve HAD to make more corrections than I wanted. I was 7 or 8 on every stage except 1 last night where I dropped 4 by not realizing the near-headwind had crossed over - I was holding .7mil the wrong direction. Luckily I did see the dust splash at the edge of the illuminated target area and made the correction to pick up the rest of the shots on the stage. I also frustrated the hell out of myself on the PRS Barricade Skills stage - I slipped off of the plate and made the wind correction to higher wind and missed a second shot to recognize the wind had fallen off, not increased, so I lost 2 on a stage which is built to be cleaned instead of just 1 by making the wrong correction there… we shoot the same stages tonight, but with 30 seconds less time to execute - I pushed pace last night to make sure I could perform tonight, so I don’t think I should have much difference due to the clock change.

Yeah, that sounds like a good time. I've never done a precision rifle night match, only pistol and carbine.
 
Great day at the range for me and my boy shooting a 600 yard F Class match

We both cleaned the first match of the day but he out X’ed me. 200-14x vs 200-9x

I got him in the 2nd match but he came back strong in the 3rd and I ended up losing that one plus the agg…..by 1 friggin point.

We both had a great day
 
Shot a hot one this weekend at our home range, and Mini-Me rose to the top of the Junior class. There weren’t many JR’s, but he topped two kids 4 and 5yrs his senior, and another his age which has more match experience.

He times out on almost every stage, since he’s a little slower on recoil recovery and a lot slower moving the rifle (I usually move his bag for him out of safety concern), so I do have him keep track of how many shots he takes vs times out vs misses. I beat him by a long shot on points (my match day sucked, never could get in the groove, think I might abandon some aspect of my new load or barrel), but he beat me on hit percentage of shots fired. He only dropped 13 shots out of what he fired on 8 stages.

I was shooting 6 BRA in F Open and he was shooting .223 in F/TR.

The match was well attended with over 60 shooters from multiple states and split pretty evenly between F Class and Sling. Several shooters were past state and national champs so the quality of competition was high.

Course of fire was 6 matches, 20 shots each for record, then the aggregate for each day plus the grand agg for the weekend (120 shots)

Both my son and I achieved personal bests over the weekend with him acquiring enough points to earn his High Master certification!

He shot his best the last match on Sunday with a 198 - 10x, which tied for first place with the guy who won the grand agg (Unfortunately, he lost the tie breaker). Now consider this, he's 16, the only one using a .223 (a Savage no less) shooting against some of the best F/TR guys in the country with custom built rifles. Needless to say, he got some attention and a lot of complements.

I managed to clean 3 of the 6 matches. I only dropped one shot on Saturday with a 599 - 37x...….which was good enough for 3rd that day. That's how good these guys are. I ended up 4th in the grand agg for the weekend (1195/76x) and very happy about that, however, my highlight for the event was being a part of my son's accomplishments, naturally.

To add a note about the final match on Sunday. The wind had gotten VERY tricky where it would switch with no notice. I shot my worst of the weekend with a 197 - 10x. I was in the pits pulling the target next to my son's when he shot his final 198 - 10x. The guy pulling his target say to me, "you need to look at this". His first 5 shots were all in the X, grouped in a tiny knot. Wish I could have gotten a picture of that.

Well, I got something in mail yesterday, over 3 years later….

I had no idea I had set a record. Nice to see the NRA is staying on top of their paperwork :D

I’m wondering how much the crazy stuff of 2020 crazyflu effected the definite lack of timeliness.
