My Dad works with a lady whose husband is an FFL... to make a long story short, they listed my Dad and I as their guests, so I'll be going to my first SHOT show. :D

So, what do I need to know? How early do I need to get a place to stay?

Who else is going?

Wes

Get your rooms NOW. If you're not staying within walking distance of the convention then start saving for cabs.

Carry a small pack with snacks and water (lots of water).

Carry a rolling document carrier for propaganda.

Pull the map and vendor list and make color codes for Must See, Want To See, Could Be Interesting and try to lay out your routes.

Check Oleg's old "What to see at SHOT" thread.

Have fun.

I'm going for the first time, too. The planned route is a great idea. The show is about five miles of walking I'm told.
Josh

Congratulations on going. Some things to know(of which you may well be aware.) The SHOT Show is not a gun show as such. It's a locale where sellers meet with the buyers -retail, wholesale and distributor - of the firearms trade. The booth reps are not there to "talk guns" with hobbyists. They will, of course, but can't spend much time doing so, they're there to sell.(but not at the show, no gun sales are done over the counter so to speak.)

SHOT is not unlike the retail business at Christmas. Sellers hope to make about 60 percent of their yearly sales here.

Wear athletic shoes!(sneakers for us old guys.) Bring a big bag on wheels(as suggested elsewhere). You can FedEx the sales promo stuff home from the show; otherwise bring another suitcase(and be prepared for excess weight/luggage fees).

You do need to book a room and airline tickets NOW! SHOT is not the only show running at this time so rooms go quick.

I don't know if they're attending this show, but keep a look out for Modern Call Products if you're into hunting. Shameless plug for a friend of mine. They make a damn good product, though. :)

Five miles of walking .... ?? :what: That's less then you're likely too do in one day. You'll hate it Wes - the place is literally full of thousands of guns - plus ammunition and every accessory known to man. Besides that you are forced -- forced I tell you -- to meet some of the top people in the industry.

I remember the first Shot Show. It was a blast, and they keep getting bigger. You'll have a ball.:neener: :D

SHOT is outstanding. I didn't sleep more than about 4 hours over 3 days. Spent all day at the show and all night drinking, gambling, and... er... doing other things. Got to meet some very cool people in the industry. Ross Seyfried, Hans Vang, Chip McCormick, Larry Vickers, Bill Laughridge, Dave Sevigny, etc...

I got a CHEAP room at the MGM Grand, and they had shuttle service all day back and forth to the convention center. Vegas is an absolute blast, but bring money. Lots of money.

Vegas lodging

Go to Travelworm.com ,, do it now. We go LV often, Travelworm always has the best rates in LV hands down. Want to really save money? Stay downtown, ride the bus or hike to the CC. Last year during Shot we had rooms for $34 per nite opening days--$45 after Friday.:p :p

Check Oleg's old "What to see at SHOT" thread.
Hmmm...I've hever been to SHOT.

Might go in 2006, got a bunch of invitations...just need to figure out if I can take time off work for that...

For attendee and exhibitor safety, NO personal firearms and/or ammunition allowed.

Does that apply to everyone or only to non-uniformed people? How is that rule enforced - do they wand everyone at the door or just do a random feeling-up like the TSA?

I hope they don't mind swords, as that's the most reasonable substitute for a pistol.

When is the shot show? and how do you get in if you're not an FFL dealer or in law enforcement?

Feb 9-12, 2006

It's restricted to "trade members only" and they are vague about what that means. Remember it is the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Tradeshow (SHOT) so there are plenty of non-FFL attendees.

I have gone as "hunting insurance sales" when I worked for Allstate. That was pushing it, but it worked. Be prepared to prove you have some kind of business, that's pretty much all you have to do. I sold liability policies to ranchers leasing out their land for hunting. That's a heck of a stretch, and it worked.

If Oleg will sponsor us we could probably get in as "media" as well

Oleg could sponsor us all as independent bloggers for the 2nd amendment. Oleg, we could also pass out some of your posters while we're there. What do you think?

Got a C&R?

I registered with my C&R to attend in 2004. Still get mailings, got one today, to register again.

As others have said, get your hotel and airline booked now. Lots of conventions in Vegas.

Oleg, didn't you post a thread about going as press a while back or am I halucinating in reverse again?

5 miles??? The SHOT website says 10!

$45 a night? You gotta tell me where you stayed.

I went with my Class 03 C&R FFL back in 2002. So think about it, C&R FFL costs $30 for three years, gets you discounts at Brownells so that Brownells can actually be affordable, and gets you in the Shot Show. That is a no brainer.

I most likely will be going this year, but not with my C&R license, but with my Class 01 FFL!!!

Get ready Vegas, here I come. And when I get there, I will probably just mope about the floors of awesome merchandise in tears because I can't take any of it south on I-15 with me because it is all illegal in California. :cuss:

That is what happened last time. All those wonderful guns and accessories and none of it legal for me to own. :banghead:

Well this time at least I can get hooked up with some ammo wholesalers. That is my biggest challenge right now and in fact if any of you have any good recommendations for West Coast wholesale ammunition companies, I need it!

I'll be there!

I work part time for a gun store/indoor range. I've already booked my flight and hotel (Treasure Island)

Looking foward to it. I'm even taking the wife!

We'll be driving, but we will probably be booking our room this week. It looks like we're probably going to stay at the Circus Circus, but I don't know yet.

I'm excited, though. :)

Wes

C&R

I just received my C&R yesterday and already registered for the Shot Show! I will probably be staying at the Sahara. I was told by the regulars that shuttle lines are way to long. So, we’ll be staying at a non-convention hotel. Someone should start a thread for everyone planning to attend.
