Would like advice on a few topics:
- good places to stay?
- any peculiarities in regard to carrying at the show and elsewhere in Vegas?
- who wants to meet up while I'll be in town?
- does anyone have any interesting photo or advertising projects for me to do?

I'll get press credentials and do pics of new items and any interesting people who won't avoid me. Is there anything else to do at SHOT Show?

Oleg:

I've attended almost every SHOT Show. I'll be there this year.

1. Make your hotel reservations now. It's probably too late to get into the Hilton (HQ hotel).

It is generally a bad idea (against the rules) to carry in the show. No doubt some do.

Interesting that you are more subject to being searched when leaving than when entering. They do look in briefcases, etc., to see if any guns have been picked up at the show. Kind of random, and not everyone gets the search. It's usually just a peek in the briefcase.

There is a media room. Register as media at the press room when you get there.

Drink lots of water. The show is HUGE! There is no way to see everything in four days. Really.

Comfortable shoes.

There are a number of seminars at the show, also. Some may be interesting to you. Many are retail related.

Just being there brings opportunities.

I'm probably going to arrange (I've done it before) a short meeting of folks who listen to Gun Talk at one of the booths. A couple of years ago we did it at the Kimber booth, and were shown a neat prototype. I just saw the production model. Very small .45 with only a "trough sight".

Maybe we can make it a THR and Gun Talk gathering.

Also, I'll broadcast from the show on Sunday.

If I had a ticket, I would go. In 2000 Gale McMillian hooked me up with a ticket... I sure do miss that guy. He was the best. The McBros booth had a nice big couch and a big overstuffed chair that Gale sat in... you could go and sit on the couch and chat with Gale - it was great. He showed me the Tubbs 2000 rifle and at the time gave me a screaming good deal on it. Should have taken him up on it.

I'll be playing hooky from another trade show in LV attending the show on Thursday and Friday, staying at Treasure Island.

As already stated, bring/drink lots of water, the air in LV is very dry and you will get dehydrated very quickly, especially if used to a humid environ (bring some saline nasal spray, trust me). Buy bottled water in bulk at one of the local off-The Strip convenience stores, a small bottle of water at the show is $2.50 and the hotel's pool water is probably more potable than their tap water. You can also buy bottled water at most hotel's store, large bottles are $2.

Comfy shoes and pace yourself. At the SHOT Show web site is a map, seminar and exhibitor list; some early scouting can help save the shoe leather and make sure you see everything you need. A trade show's exhibitor list is always helpful when prospecting.

You can also book hotels at the SHOT Show web site; they actually have some pretty good rates. There is also a shuttle bus schedule there; you can use this to help you find out which hotel would be most convenient. Taxis are readily available at strip hotels, but can quickly get expensive. If you do that route, the convention center is to the north of the strip, MGM, Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo, Luxor are at the south of the strip and will add quite a bit of time and cab fare to the commute. Hilton is adjoining the CC. Treasure Island, Venetian, Monte Carlo, Caesars, Stratosphere are on the north end of the strip.

If staying on the strip, tell taxi driver picking you up at the airport to avoid the tube/stay off freeway, you can also ask him to make a quick stop for bottled water on the way. ;) If you check your baggage, do not lose the baggage claim ticket, they do sometimes have a guard checking all luggage before they let you out; carryons can occasionally be questioned but have never had a problem. Going home, the LV airport check in for Southwest Airlines is often an unmitigated nightmare at random times; if you can fly an alternate, I do recommend it (shame because I like SWA). If not, call the airport at least 4 hours before your flight and be prepared to go *right then*.

I go to LV frequently on business and would be happy to provide any assistance/advice desired.

I'll be there and it's my first show so it should be interesting. I'd say stay at my house but I live a good 30 miles from the Strip! The taxi fare would make your plane ticket look cheap! :D

I'll be looking up the guys at Alumagrips, and other than that I won't know anybody! :)

I'll be there.

Oleg,

Carrying in Vegas is not difficult if you have a valid NV CCW card (or another state's that is accepted: Does not include TN) and you avoid The SHOT Show, all Casinos and most public buildings. ;)

From packing.org:

Only NV permits are valid. NV does not accept any other state's permits.
The SHOT Show, Casinos and any other public buildings are only off-limits if they are posted at every public entrance.

I know some Casinos and public buildings are posted - by no means all.

Does anyone know if the LVCC or the show are normally posted?

All that said, I'll be there - attending my first SHOT show as well.

I already have FL and MN...getting NV on top of that strikes me as excessive. Maybe I'll skip the show, as I might get worked up about LEO/Mil-only gear shown off there.

I carry in casinos all the time - they may not like it but it's legal if it's not posted and not many are. I don't go to that many casinos but I only know of one that is posted - Binion's.

I've heard that the Shot Show is posted, and the gun shows here are too. Other events like concerts have metal detectors and that makes them off limits too.

I don't normally go to college or state buildings, so I don't wind up having to leave my Kimber in the truck very often. Most of the time when I do leave it behind it's because of a doctor appt. and I don't want them to find it! :)

My wife and I are going. It's our first time at SHOT. Another reminder folks to make your hotel reservations early because it is also Valentine's day weekend so it will be packed. Use the SHOT show website as they have the best prices. Hotels inflate their prices for special days like Valentine's day.

Sorry, not open to the public. It's a trade show and open to people in the industry. You must have a FFL# or be in the business to provide goods and services to the "trade."

A CC&R FFL is okay and maybe a business card showing you work in the industry. Or you can be a guest of someone who is going.

I will be there, this will be my 15th SHOT Show. Staying at Circus Circus because it is relatively cheap and the dealers recognize me there. The SHOT Show site has sold all their rooms, but they still have rooms available. They also have an RV park and are on the shuttle route.

George, you should be able to drive from Utah. I have friends driving from Texas.

Man I almost could, I should have the time, but I'm now editing/art directing magazines in TWO markets with deadlines two weeks apart.

Justin, Steve.. get me a Colt Mouse pad or something eh? :(

Hi Larry,
I believe it's booth 929, I haven't checked a site map to know what hall it's in. I'm strap hanging with a company called Accu-Shot that makes an elevation adjustor for the stock end of a sniper rifle. (It's like an up and down micrometer screw with a wheel handle that's turned by the off hand.)
