m&p 15 sport owners chime in

Ok the M&P 15 sport has been out for a while now and it looks like I'm finally gonna get one some of you guys have owned one or two since there introduction ....how are they holding up??.....I've got 1,600$ budget ....BUT I also want a new glock or springfield and ammo and maybe some toys for the AR I know with 1,600$ I could buy a DR OR RJF ar but there's other things I want to get also and it seems the m&p sport will do just fine....and I may change the upper out (and keep it to go on a different lower later) to a PSA or BCM.

So with that said how have your m&p's treated you since you've owned them. Thanx.
 
They are excellent. Accuracy has been phenomenal, no failures, and relatively light when crap is added to it. I'm in your boat (you've seen my Windham thread) and am considering yet another Sport myself.

Me being you, I'd get the Sport and a Glock 19, stock up on as much ammo as possible, put a decent optic on the Sport, night sights on the G19.

You could get something fancier, but if your intended use is like mine, a jack of all trades is a good role for the Sport. It's accurate with irons or optic (5r is not a gimmick), light, and reliable. You won't be disappointed I assure you.:)
 
My Sport has continued to just work. The BCG group is wearing like any other top tier BCG, as in very little observable wear. Keep it lubed well and the carbon wipes right off. The Melonite bbl just keeps trucking and doesn't show wear either. Of course they use black nitride treatment on high strain internal parts in performance engine builds, so I'm not surprised it holds up so well on a simple rifle bbl.

Easy to clean, no obvious wear in barrel, and stays considerably accurate with fouling.

BCG shows no wear. After 3000 rounds in my last specimen, at 250 rounds a week (average), with a good cleaning you'd never peg it as used.

It cycles steel, however accuracy degrades and I don't recommend straight walled steel cased cartridges, ever. With 55gr Barnes, 69 gr Black hills, and federal m193 accuracy was nary over MOA, with the Barnes shooting moa and better five shot groups off the bench at 100 with TRS-25 red dot. Still day, near perfect weather, but all in all I'd say damn good for a carbine with red dot. You'll have to take me on my word.

If you can survive the lack of a dust cover and forward assist, which I've no use for anyway, then there's really little reason to not consider it.
 
If I REALLY pay attention my will shoot sub MOA. I've got a sub moa gun with a 2 moa trigger. Get one and never look back. Upgrading the trigger may be well worth it. I'd buy another one tomorrow if I needed to replace this one.
 
Whats not to like about a sport. Works well, accurate , completely reliable and except all AR add-ons. Best yet at 600 dollars , maybe less why not buy one.
 
I bought my sport used no telling how many rounds were ran through it and it was never cleaned, some of the gunk I pulled out of that rifle was over a 1/4" thick. My best guess mine has over 8k worth of rounds through it 1500 from me and it has yet to have an issue. It groups well with 55-62gr bullets my only wish would be for a mid length gas system. With a 10x scope I was putting hits on steel at 450m.
