Mis-fires and brass...

Knock on wood, but MDI is da man...

I remembered reading of "sensitizing" ("preloading") primers a while back so I began seating the primers, all the way into the bottom of the pocket, and adding a little "ummph" to preload the primer.

So I read up on "sensitizing", not a lot of articles on it, one article mentioned, pressing the primer half way, then rotating 180 degrees and finishing it. Then giving an extra "ummph" to flatten the primer more.

So I did the 180 degree thing with my Lee hand primer, then used the primer that comes with the Lee press, and pulled the lever with ummph on each primed case before loading power.

0% mis-fires :). Kinda of a pain in the ass, but I will take the 0% mis-fires.

Thanks MDI.

Just got my Charter Back from the factory for light strike misfires in DA. Charters have a lifetime warranty. They replaced the crane, installed a new mainspring and adjusted the headspace. The misfire issue seems to be fixed. The only issue I see is that the barrel-cylinder gap seems large, i guess as a result of the headspace adjustment.

Suggestion: Make sure no one is standing within 15 feet on either side of you while you are shooting. A large flash gap is dangerous to bystanders; they can be injured by high-speed particles such as unburned powder, bullet fragments, lube, etc.

Question for Shaq ref post 15

A response to Shaqs comments- post 15.
Took exception to your comments about Charter Arms being junk!
I have personally used a Charter Arms Bull Dog .357 for over 25 years. As well as being used for winter carry, it gets fully checked at the range every month.Minimum of 25 rounds.
Its never had a misfire or any other problem, nor has it required any special maintenance.
It holds its own with my Rugers, Colts, SW and Dan Wessons.

Is it as well built as the others, probably not but the original cost was very low and it has performed flawlessly. It still looks good and still shoots extremely well. As noted, it lived in good company and i trust it as well as all the other famous makers in my arsenal.
I would like to hear the rationale behind the trash comments you posted.
