More Pink Pistols -- and I need models

My wife & her 2 bestfriends (a gay couple named Ryna & Justin) laughed when I said that I wanted to pose for it. Justin said I could be a gay lumberjack because of the beard but Ryan said I could be a gay biker because of the beard, tattoos & such...oh well I guess I'm not pretty enough to be gay...

*As I mutter to myself "stupid ugly heterosexual self. Not pretty enough to even pretend"*

At my certification class for BPP Instructor the whole room fell silent when I said I would like to instruct gays, who are more likely to need self defense than straight folks. Everybody looked at me funny. That was before the Pink Pistols.

I have been married to the same lady for 38 years. I just don't think anybody should be attacked with impunity, and what other people do in privacy is none of my business. Sorry, but I'm too old and fat to be a good candidate for your picture.

Bob, lose your stereotypes and your xenophobia... I'll go shooting with anyone.

Too many gays think that "gun owners" are just "rednecks out to bash gays." This organization goes a LONG way to dragging them over to our side...

Just for fun, I checked out the website. The Phoenix chapter (fifth largest city in the country, and very generous gun laws) has 14 members. Not a tremendously powerful showing! I totally agree this section of our society has as much, and probably more need of self defense!

Oleg, I think it would be better to use actual Pink Pistols members, or at least folks who are gay.

A few years ago, a friend's company in a predominantly gay community (Midtown Atlanta), did an ad campaign involving two guys. Apparently, it was obvious in some way that the models were not gay, and the community was highly offended.

Oleg, what were you thinking about for scenes/setups for the shoot? Or if anyone else has ideas. I have been batting around ideas but can't come up with anything terribly interesting. (Don't blame me, I'm just a supermodel!)

Peoples is peoples, some are nice and some should have been drowned at birth or before.
Go for some real Pink Pistol members, make it as real as it is.

There's more to people than their orientation. Plenty of people you've seen in posters are GLBTetc -- but I happened to have very few images of couples...and most of my friends aren't local to me.

For 40SW and others:

Pink Pistols, as an organization, honors diversity and is open to all shooters regardless or sexual orientation, gender, race or nationality. They bring new shooters into the realm of firearms ownership and self defense. They seek to provide a non-judgemental social environment to all members. They work to build bridges between the shooting community and other communities, and to educate their local law and policy makers. Through their activism, they have increased awareness of the need for effective personal defense for all citizens. They are with us. We need to be with them.

Bogie,
I have no steroeotypes or xenophobia towards gays nor did my post which appears to have been deleted. I actually have several gay friends and a gay sister in law whom I love dearly.
I did not stereotype them, they stereotyped themselves with the name "Pink Pistols". I am sure if they changed their name to a legitimate name there may be more members. I am 100% positive that there are a whole lot of gay men who do not like the words gay and pink to be synonomous.

When I read the parameters that Xavier just posted, a few years ago at the Pink Pistols' site, I joined right away.

IIRC, all you have to do is decide that you belong, and you're a member. I haven't been to a range trip with them yet, but what the heck; I'm delighted that the group exists.

I'm in. I live within reach of the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.

Oleg, I think the advice to use genuinely gay models is solid. There are subtleties that we "breeders" are not attuned to. I have several gay friends and family members, and they cover the full range of expression. Some are flaming and obvious, others aren't, but they can all pretty much tell who's who.

I just don't see how one can "tell" if one is gay or not just by looking...

Here is one well-known example: John Barroman. He plays an "omnisexual" character in the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood, but he's also gay IRL:

CAPTAIN JACK HARKNESS

*shrugs* I don't see anything that would give me any clues one way or the other....

Then again, I'm STRAIGHT - so I'd take the advice over those that are gay over mine, in this matter. ;)

(btw Torchwood = not so great on guns. One scene where Jack is training a new recruit how to shoot, they shortly get to the "one gun in each hand" technique...

Though one of my favorite scenes is when the Cap'n breaks bad and mows down a whole room of bad guys with a shotgun!)

Green,

I just don't see how one can "tell" if one is gay or not just by looking...

Some people have good "gaydar", some don't. Mine is pretty good but my dad's was awful.

It helps to be around gays & have gay colleagues and friends. My gaydar is pretty good for gay men but has gotten better for lesbians ever since I made good work friends with a lesbian.

In a city like Houston it's pretty easy to get practice. For example, if you see a man who's very well dressed for any occasion, and I mean tailored shirts, perfect tuck, perfect hair, possibly even French cuffs then I get "returns" from my gaydar. Mebbe so, mebbe not, it obviously takes more that...

Not that it matters, it's just people watching.

Frankly Mr. Barroman loses gaydar points because he's wearing brown shoes with a black outfit.

I have a friend who is in the organization 'Girth and Mirth' here in MN. If you desire I can pass along contact information to him, that way you have gay men posing as gay men which might be better. Think of how often we groan at pics when someone who is obviously not a gunperson has some minor detail wrong.

Wow, thought I stepped into the Twilight Zone somehow.

I will try to say this respectfully, not intending to offend in any way. After all, it is Oleg's site, and I appreciate the work he does in regards to the right to keep and bear arms.

I strongly believe that we all have the same rights, and all should be treated with the same respect and human dignity. We all have the right to defend ourselves, and no-one has any right to assault someone else no matter what the reason. What bothers me about the poster is the link to a gay organization. To me it appears to be an endorsement of the gay agenda.

I thought that controversial non-firearm related issues were off limits here, so we could come together on the specific issue of firearms and second-amendment rights without unneccessarily offending one another. I've kept my views on issues other than guns to myself, thought that was the way it works here.

If you want to be gay; that's your business. If I believe that homosexuality is inherently immoral; that's my business. I don't hate anyone, nor do I have any ill will towards gay people. I don't mean to start an argument or anything else. I'm just very surprised and dissapointed, that's all. I thought this was a place where diverse folks could come together with a common interest. I realize now that those with more traditional values are not entirely welcome.

I also realize that I will likely not be entirely welcome here after this post.
Sorry, Oleg, no offense intended; I just had to speak my mind. Feel free to delete if you see fit. It is your site after all. Thank you for the otherwise excellent forum, and the opportunity to participate.

fatelk,

No offense is taken -- and I am not too fond of "Pink Pistols" because it excludes long guns. But PP is a very effective org -- it has attracted many straight members and they have been very good with both PR and having people take them up on the offers of training.

Same as JPFO (plenty of members aren't Jewish), except that JPFO is more education and talk and PP is more grassroots action. Keep in mind that PP is purely volunteer org without a budget, yet they get much done.

Me, I just want members of all groups -- those traditionally vulnerable and all others -- to be capable of self-defense. I am planning posters pointed at young, strong men also -- even a trained fighter would want a weapon when in a fight and even a young, strong man would get old and creaky someday.

As for gay/non-gay models -- I have always tried to use authentic models but I've also used a pacifist Mennonite in some of my most popular images promoting armed self-defense. To me, person's orientation matters very little unless I am interested in dating them. That said, my background with small arms almost caused three men to decline a party invitation from a mutual friend. They didn't want to be around a "homophobic right-winger"...the host explained that I wasn't and I found it helpful to point out my support for Pink Pistols and thus get two of the three interested in learning guns.

Mr. Volk,

If you still need models, I'm willing. Not gay, but I assume I can still be photographed in a manner which implies it. I'm in MN, just south of the Twin Cities. PM me any time. Be prepared though, I'm amazingly beautiful. :D

ETA: Wife says I can't do "nude"

One of the ideas is to show a guy in the center with a "wife" on one side and a "husband on the other". Caption: "Traditional or non-traditional -- your family deserves protection."

The way you describe it, there would be three people in the picture?

Anyway, can I be the one holding a gun? No matter, just grab a camera and come take pictures of armed Minnesotans defending loved ones.

"Omnisexual???":scrutiny:

Jeez, just when I figure out homosexual, bisexual and metrosexual, here comes omnisexual. I'm so far behind, I can't even see the guy in next-to-last place.:what:

Seriously, though. If you're a good, honest American gun-toter I couldn't care less what you do with your naughty bits. More power to the Pink Pistols.
