When discussing of out-of-the-box accuracy in the 9mm world, most people agree the Sig p210 and the CZ75, are hard to beat. But how about in the 10mm world? Are there some obvious standouts? I have a Tanfoglio 6in. Witness Hunter, BUT I still feel my CZ75 SP01 and Shadow 2 are more accurate, even with their shorter barrels. What gives? Any thoughts?

Same ammo, shot from one gun than the other. Both targets shot offhand from 25 yards.

The target on the left is from a Ruger Blackhawk and the one on the right is a Colt Delta Elite.

I'd be willing to bet, the overwhelming vast majority of people shoot 9mm handguns better than 10mm simply due to the blast and recoil.

A longer barrel doesn't make a gun more accurate, it just increases your ability to shoot it better.

I've got a heavily modified CZ S2 and Dan Wesson DWX, both at 30 yds will print golf ball sized groups.

I don’t agree with those two models being particularly accurate out of the box. You have a link to stats on that?

I had a Colt Delta in the 1990s and it was a 3" at 25 yard gun for me. I sold it in early 2000s as I was underwhelmed with it and got offered twice what I paid. My son has a Glock 20 and he is very good with it and can get 3" 25 yard groups , mine are a bit larger. :) I have a Gray Guns worked over Sig X-ten and it is a 2" gun at 25 yards in my 48 year old sons hands with it's Holosun 507C sight and about 2.5 " at 25 for my 76 year old eyes ! all groups rest from bags .

Well, let's break this down a little bit.

My most accurate 10mm pistol is my Nighthawk performer, this one is DOB accurate.

This one is quite expensive, my most accurate (not as expensive as the Nighthawk) in the Sig P220 SAO.
I have the P220 10mm's in SA/DA and SAO, both are great but, the SAO is more accurate,
Revolver:

I have 5 10mm revolvers and the most accurate in the GP100 Match Champion, by far.

I’ve yet to venture down the 10MM wheel gun route yet but my top to bottom accuracy in semi’s are as follows:

1.Glock 40
2. S&W M&P 2.0 with a 4.6” barrel
3. Glock 20
4. Springfield XDM Elite 3.8”
5. FN 510
6. Rock Island 1911
7. Witness Poly 10MM.

All based on a 180 gr Hornady XTP load with 800X. I also have a super accurate Hi-Point 10MM carbine with that load as well.

I don’t have a whole lot of experience with 10mm but I have experience with a few.

I have shot a witness-P and there’s no way I would buy one. Mediocre at best in every category, but it was not awful in any category.

I owned a 90s delta elite. That gun was literally the most frustrating gun for me on 3 separate occasions. It cost me an incredible Taurus as partial trade-in. It had Godawful chamber support to which Colt just shrugged their shoulders. It was accurate, but not stellar. I got out of it by trading it for a new 686-6 and I ended up not liking that gun either. I refuse to own colts from the late 70s all the way up to the start of production under new ownership because that gun left that bad of a taste for me. No more jumping jackass.

A former coworker had a 610 and I liked it enough to be interested, but ultimately it was so much like the 686-6 I had traded away that I didn’t care enough for it to buy it from him. It was accurate, but it was boring. Of all the 10mm guns I have shot it was probably the most accurate due to the all around setup. Decent target style sights, long sight radius, decent grips, passable factory trigger.

My current 10mm is a cheapo. Rock Island GI model single stack rural king $400 special. It will stack the shots up nice and tight at any range you want to shoot it at, but POA and POI are not the same. The sights are not adjustable so I can’t fix that without modifying the gun. Mechanically accurate, very much so. Dialed in, not really because it hits 4” high at 7 yards, a foot high at 25 yards, and beyond that it’s just too much to try and calculate elevation. There’s not enough sight to file down as correction either. I love the gun though, and will eventually change sights, but not yet.

The second one looks like a Witness Hunter, except for the lightening ports on the slide.
Do the Match models have cone barrels? The Hunter I have doesn't.
No. I suppose Match models have match chambers.
The models with cone barrel are the Limited Master, the Stock Master, the Stock II Optic and the Stock II.
Cone barrels for Tanfoglio pistols were once made by Lothar Walther. I don't know who makes them now. Maybe Tanfoglio itself, maybe still Lothar Walther.
I see that the Match is not available now. Only the Gold Match.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. My Hunter is the only Tanfoglio I own. I like it quite a bit and may branch out.

I just perused the main Italian Tanfoglio website and the US importer, Italian Firearms Group, and it seems the model line-up is different to a couple of years ago. I didn't see the Hunter in the line-up. A lot of 10mms were there, though.
