Most Accurate .3 Cal Semi-Auto Rifle?

for apples to apples, you need to add the price of glass to any rifle that you're comparing to the PSG1, since it comes with glass.
...AND a virtually indestructible fitted case that holds the rifle, the scope w/detachable mount, a couple of 20 round mags, at least one 10 round mags, and probably some other stuff that I can't remember.

Okay....

trying to get close to an "apples to apples" comparison, describe the exact kit that is fielded with the PSG1 and we'll see just what a similarly equiped AR10 would run while trying to make use of comparable equipment available on the market.

AR10 A4 with 2 10 round mags(often times with mount)......1400 dollars
Rebuilding to acc. config or buying 2nd acc. upper.....500-1200
four 20 round mags..............................................300
1pc mount that consistently returns to zero..............90-100
Choice of scopes, leupold, ziess, S&B.......................600-2200
Aftermarket trigger..............................................150-250
Bipod.................................................................80-120
Adjustable buttplate for A1 or A2 stock...................90-150
Cleaning kit, supporting gear..................................100-200
Case such as Starlight or Pelican............................150-300

Low side estimate of around 3460 dollars to a high of around 6220 with the major impacts being just how high of quality you go on optics as well as figuring for a complete 2nd upper assembly totally custom built.

I am 54 years old, I wear glasses, and I am only human. I can go to walmart and buy a Remington 7400, and a 3 x 9 scope for five hundred bucks, that will shoot better than I can. I would expect to keep all rounds in four inches at 300 yards. Anything more is beyond my ability, anyway.

JP isn't far from my mind but I didn't consider them because I'm not familiar with how they are bolting together their new AR10 based rifles.

Back when I got my JP Ent. Grade III upper the AR10 based guns by JP were not much more than an AR10 with the JP trigger/hammer installed, new freefloat tube, and a muzzle brake thrown on. The base rifles they used were the AR10 A4 with stainless 16 or 20in barrel and then their AR10 T based rifle with 24 inch barrel.

Does the JP AR10 still use the Armalite supplied barrel and just toss away that which they don't like from Armalite? Still though, not terribly bad price from JP considering their list price for the modifications isn't all that much over the list price of an Armalite AR10 T. Toss on some optics and figure out what a similar cased rifle with support gear would run for that "apples to apples" comparison and it probably would get close to my bottom end estimate. roughly

Reason I made the list the way I did was based off of what an entry level factory AR10 would cost inorder to do a build into a target configuration depending on whether you use a JP Ent. style approach by upgrading here and there or whether getting an additional accurized top end.

I think they are using their own barrels now. They guarantee 1MOA, but you'll get better.

I'm not arguing against the PSG1 at all, by the way. I've never shot one. I don't much care for the ergonomics of the G3, but that's personal. Comparing the included PSG scope is probably not apple-to-apples if the compared-to AR10 has a Leupold M1, Nightfore, or even ACOG -- the optics' features are just too different.

Funny but I was just asked this the other day...

regarding the HK-91/G-3 system over the M-14.

I believe the HK-91 system per se can retain its accuracy longer than the M-14. First, the M-14 is a prima donna that is very high maintenance. It requires constant attention to retain its accuarcy.

The HK-91 is actually simpler. Its weakness is the "flex" of the stamped steel receiver. This is rectified by additional metal reinforcing bars on the side of the receiver where a collaspable stock would fit on a HK-91A3. Going back to the system, because it's delayed gas blowback, it has fewer moving parts that the M-14 (no bolt op rod, op rod spring guide, piston (especially if the unitized gas cylinder assembly gets a bit loose) that can result in indifferent harmonics.

Now, if I had to drop the bucks, I'd go with an SR-25. I want that Remington 5R barrel. The AR-10T would be my second choice.

Pretty sure Knights is now using Obermyer 5R barrels on their SR25s which is even better yet...

NDM-86 Dragunov in .308 will shoot sub-moa all day w/match ammo. My 3-shot CTC average at 100yds is .6" and personal best is .24" w/my rusty skills & a cheap Russian 8x scope. I'm currently having *good* glass installed (IOR 2.5-10x42 Tactical) so I can find out what the NDM-86 is really capable of. The NDM-86 isn't cheap but it's rugged, reliable and more accurate than me!
