say the situation arose where you need to shoot a bg at close range with a handgun you own
which handgun in your arsenal would you most trust? (concealability isnt a factor)

Trust for what?

Trust to function properly -- feed, fire, extract and eject, sure as clockwork? Makarov.

or

Trust to stop the troll? Ruger .45 or XD .40.

Difficult to choose, easy to answer....I have 3 Glocks, with more than 10,000 rounds through each of them, all with zero malfunctions. Glock 19, 22, and 33. All pistols that a baboon couldn't jam if it tried.

My HK USP SK .40 cal has about 15,000 rounds through it, and has zero malfunctions.

I trust every one of these firearms with my life, and I don't think anyone would disagree with me when I say that, amongst others, you cannot go wrong by carrying these firearms.

You should never trust your life with something that "might" malfunction, because it will do just that when you need it most.

All my handguns have been reliable so far. I would feel comfortable with either my Glock 17, Browning HP or S&W 66/19.

Close in, one single bad guy? Either of my three 10MMs or one of my six 45ACPs the choice is between 135 gr doing 1600fps or 185gr at 1100fps both Nosler JHPs.

TC Contender in .30-30 Winchester. Bang flop, just like last year's deer. :D 2100 fps for a 150 grain Nosler BT. With a good rest, I'll take him out at 200 yards, too! :D

That deer was hit high in the lungs at 90 yards and went down so fast, I thought I'd screwed up and put the thing on phaser kill or something. The bullet passed about 4" below the spine and shut out the lights. If ya'd rather have yer rifle, well, hear ya go! :D

S&W 4506
As long as I don't have to try to conceal that big SOB (swell old boy) in the south Alabama summers, I love it. Not pretty, but dead on reliable, rock solid and it goes BANG every time.

Either my Sig P239 9mm or my P226 9mm. The 239 is with me 100% of the time and thge 226 about 70% but both are 100% reliable and dead on accurate.

Top choice would be my S&W 686+ with 7 rounds of .357 Magnum. I would not hesitate to trust my Makarov in any situation - the 686 just has some more power! ;)

Just about any of these calibers would do. If you put me in a ring with a 250-pound heavyweight boxer who wanted to rip my face off, and I had a gun with only one round, it would definately be a .357 mag with a 125-gr JHP.

I would, without hesitation, trust any of my pistols to work when I need it. This is a result of good research, purchasing quality products and good maintenance. However, I would probably pick up my Glock 17 before anything else.
